So after watching this many more times, my love for it has solidified, and the complaints from the initial couple viewings have become more apparently minor. I fuckin love this movie and JJ&co did an incredible job meeting insane expectations.

That's where you and I will have to disagree. Kylo is blatantly conflicted. He says his father means nothing to him, yet still feels a strong connection to him through the Force. There is also a deleted scene I've yet to see wherein he sits in his father's pilot chair inside the Falcon. If that's not a sign of conflicted nostalgia, I don't know what is. The fact that he didn't destroy the Falcon (his father's only means of escaping Starkiller Base and obviously the most important object in the galaxy to him) also says a lot.

Was Kylo killing Han the big thing he needed to impress Snoke and leap into the Dark Side? Yes, obviously. But Kylo is a 3 Dimensional character with emotions to match his motivations. It seems pretty clear to me from the beginning of the movie he has his sites set on Luke's whereabouts (not specifically killing him) and furthering himself down the path of the Dark Side under Snoke's guidance. From the interrogation on, his anger is redirected towards Rey for her obstinance and Han for his compassion for a seemingly stronger force using girl. Rey's Force awakening triggers a chain of events that meet the same end, Kylo doing something bad. Really bad.

Whether you think Rey and her relationship with Han and her Force abilities were the reason or not, her appearance in Kylo's world certainly did. Without Rey, BB-8 would have been handed over and Luke would have been found pretty quickly. Without Rey, Han and Chewie would still be hauling Rathtars (or have been killed by the Kanjiklub) somewhere in space while fruitlessly looking for the Falcon. Without Rey, none of the major plot events in TFA would have taken place. She is the movie. Therefore you have to consider her role in Han's death just as much as Snoke's.

I believe there is more to it than just her existing and rolling into this whole mess, but I understand why some wouldn't want to think that critically. Anyway, that's that.

    Amen.

is there a full cut with all the extra scenes?

  4. I haven't heard of a full cut. I think they are just extras on the disc.

  5. This was great. Like how he picked apart the lazy criticism that it follows A New Hope.

    Nope.

Edit: well, officially. I would not be surprised if someone edits one together. But I wouldn't want it. Some of the scenes do not have complete and finished CGI. It would be jarring during the movie. A couple scenes seem pretty much done. I would enjoy a cut with the Kylo in the Falcon scene, but I'm happy with it as an extra scene.

I haven't watched deleted scenes for anything in years probably. I will for this, but usually they are clearly unfinished and were left out for good reason

I used to really like them, but I have grown to feel the same as you. I often don't bother with them. I really wanted to see these though. The one in Maz's basement is actually pretty funny.

Just watched this again for I think the 10th time. It was my parents first time watching it and they absolutely loved it. They're now ready for Episode 8.

There were a few deleted scenes for this movie that either were made and then scrapped or made and then unfinished because it wouldn't work/fit in the story line.

    Interested to see them nonetheless.

None of the deleted scenes really reveal anything. A couple nice moments, but minus the Kylo/Falcon scene, they are pretty forgettable.

Although one is basically 45 seconds of FN-2187 breathing, heavily. That's pretty funny.

I want to see the Maz Kanata deleted scene. I guess it's available digitally only.

Probably scrapped for a good reason then.

My digital copy didn't really have a deleted scene with her. She was in one, but it was more about Han and Finn.

  17. I re-watched this the other night and my entire body had the same reaction the 5th time I've seen it. It's just an amazing moment.

I think it comes with the Blu-ray but it's through the digital download code. There's a scene with her showing what she can do with the Force. Part of it is shown on the trailer for the deleted scenes that was released a week and a half or so ago.

so, the digital copy comes with all the extras? I assumed it didn't. That kind of makes me just want to get the digital version now and wait for a more complete blu ray

The deleted scenes are so bad. It's almost like they said 'hey we need to film some deleted scenes, be sure to step your acting game down a few grades and be really awkward'.

Some time last year iTunes started included the extras with their digital copies so long as you are connected to wifi.

  24. Kylo-Gwen by Brian Kesinger. I'm down for more SW/Marvel crossover stuff from this guy. His Calvin & Hobbes/SW crossover drawings are great.
