Still House Plants - If I don’t make it, I love u (April 12, 2024)

Heard about this on indiecast last week. Forgot to check it out until the pitchfork review. It’s quite good. Reminds me of Nilufer Yanna if she leaned into indie math rock. Incredible drum album.

I gotta say, I'm finding this kinda hard to get through unfortunately. Bummer because I have seen so much praise over the last few weeks. Some songs are good, but some really grate on me.

 

the band is doing some incredible stuff musically and the brashness/harsh contrast of the vocals works at some moments and absolutely does not work at other moments. i find it completely tense pretty much the whole time with minimal catharsis or release and as much as all the disparate parts impress me, i also have been turning it off a few tracks in every time.
