I feel the same way, not especially after his feature with Noah Kahn, I heard this and was like.... Whoa is he always this good???

He’s more of a singles guy than a full album guy but there’s a lot of raw talent there

There are quite a few more songs that I really like that I couldn't fit in, but if I had to whittle down to 13, this is my initial take on the album that stills hits the main notes: Joe is over, Matty was my mistake to make and boy was he, I'm a boss even when I'm very sad, oh hi Travis (to be reductively tongue in cheek about the emotional range of the album).

There's a really sweet accompanying RSD 7" with 7 more songs amongst the rest.

As I've been seeing others do this exercise, the variety of the track lists has indicated though that she's nailed that sweet spot where everyone has different things to latch onto and love. You can see it with every attempt at re-tracking Lover or Midnights that's floated around this website for years. It's wild how much she can produce and still hit more than miss.

Being in a Taylor mood but also not that excited to dig into something mostly unfamiliar, I skipped around Midnights this morning and I gotta say while it's not the best whole album in her catalogue, I think that has kind of led people to underrate how good the best stuff on it is. Top 5 on midnights is right there with anything else she's made.

Post rules, but yeah it's spotty for a whole album. Novacandy was one of my favorite songs from last year.

I know this isn't totally different from her previous few, but man it's depressing. I know that's the point, but I have no desire to throw this on while driving around when it's 60ish and sunny outside.

My cousin is tight with him and co-wrote a bunch of the big hits (“Better Now,” “Sunflower,” “Circles”) so I’ve always been interested in him and respected the craft of his songs for that reason. But beyond the family connection, he’s typically filed under “good at what he does, but not really for me.” Maybe it’s time to check back in.

Your cousin co-wrote one of the biggest singles in modern history (Sunflower)? Damn

I want I Can Fix Him to get the same production at No Body, No Crime. Seems like it's asking to not be so stripped back.

This is an absurd factoid considering how massive those three hits are.

Have I not brought this up before?! Haha, yeah, Billy Walsh is my cousin on my mom’s side. His dad, also Billy Walsh, is a folk-rock singer/songwriter who had a decent regional following in Boston back in the 1990s/2000s, and used to bring his guitar to family reunions and lead these big family singalongs. Their family is definitely a big part of the reason I fell in love with music in the first place.

    Anyway, this is him:

I've been trying to give each "disk" time separately as to not overwhelm myself and my feelings remain largely unchanged after the weekend with a few more listens:

The proper album is really, really, really good. I have it easily usurping Midnights. I don't know where it falls otherwise, but, I do at least know that for now. Catch me singing "FLORIDAAAAAAA" every time I see a headline of someone from there doing something stupid.

The second disk is largely fine, but it feels like a lesser, under-baked version of what she successfully did on Folklore and Evermore. I feel like that type of style is better suited for her writing ventures outside of auto-biography. If I wasn't at least passingly intrigued by the Easter eggs and general lore, I don't really think I'd see any reason to revisit those songs.

I'm looking forward to the most ridiculous records she sets with this album release. I know it'll be the best sales week in X years, but I really want to see the dumb ones like "First Person to chart 31 songs off one double album in the top 40 chart" or "most streams for track 30 from any album in history" just gimme some really dumb shit

If Taylor got a songwriting credit on "Deja Vu," Olivia should absolutely be getting royalties on "imgonnagetyouback."
