i’ve been meaning to tell you

the first album has great pacing and feels really cohesive. i like the second album, but it kinda feels like a bunch of songs. the black dog, the albatross, chloe or sam or sophia or marcus, how did it end, the prophecy, so high school, the bolter, and the manuscript are all great. i'm always happy to have more music from her.

I really love most of the second half but it just doesn't feel like a complete album the way the first half does and I definitely personally prefer the synthy sound of the main album.

reading it back 20 years later... what a self-evident premise.

I haven't had a chance to listen to just the second half / Anthology songs alone really yet, and for me I feel like some of it is simply fatigue setting in after like 20 songs and well over an hour

Album one is better than album two, but I wouldn’t refer to album two as “bonus songs.” Feels like a totally different album to me.

Album one is a continuation of Midnights.
Album two is a continuation of folklore.

I can do it with a broken heart is great. I think vocally she has really found her sweet spot. She sounds great here. The songs I don't care for don't sound bad they just blend sonically and sound kinda filler but they could def grow over time. Her lyrics have a more Lana del rey or phoebe bridgers influence to them now I feel.

As with every taylor album I listen to, I feel like she feels so much more emotions than I do and leaves me wondering if I am a robot. I know they knew each other longer than a fortnight but I wish I could feel that many feelings after 2 weeks. 2 weeks in and I'm still too anxious and uptight to have any feelings aside from being self conscious :crylaugh:

Also love the idea of someone I've been seeing for two seconds to be like "hey can I bring my typewriter to your apartment? No biggie as I casually type on this thing." But then when you break up you could angrily smash it up and mail back the keys so that would be satisfying

God, why pitchfork hasnt hired me to share my fascinating thoughts on music is beyond me

I’ve still only done one good full listen but I thought disc 2 was as good on first, and I’m almost always a jack over dessner person so that’s saying something.

I find it hilarious that she refers to Travis' teammates in "The Alchemy" as his "friends." Edit: Alchemy not High School

Rather than cut this fucker down to a single-disc length, I'm toying with a "this is what double LPs used to be like" version with 20 songs and two discs. Here's what I've got right now:

    Disc 1

    1. Fortnight
    2. The Tortured Poets Department
    3. My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys
    4. Down Bad
    5. So Long, London
    6. But Daddy I Love Him
    7. Guilty As Sin
    8. Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?
    9. I Can Do It With A Broken Heart
    10. Clara Bow

    Disc 2

    1. How Did It End?
    2. Peter
    3. So High School
    4. imgonnagetyouback
    5. The Black Dog
    6. I Look In People's Windows
    7. loml
    8. The Alchemy
    9. The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
    10. The Manuscript

I haven't listened enough to the second album but I like this idea way more than trying to make one single disc.

Does an Antonoff album and a Dessner album make sense thematically?

I've been thinking a lot about the single choice here and actually I think she made the right decision, but not because it's the best song (it's actually one of my least favorites).

I think she knew that nothing on here is a big hit single, which is fine of course, so she somewhat artificially made Fortnight the single by having Post Malone on it and being track 1. Both of those things being obvious stream boosters
