Isn’t that the case for literally every lyric on this album

i'll say that while his current output feels uninspired, Voicenotes wasn't that bad of an album

this feels like what Charli XCX said about the lyricism of her new album - lyrics that felt more like a text conversation than shrouded in metaphor (although there's some of that on TTPD, because obviously)

I saw Charlie a few years ago in a smaller theater in Boston. Hell of a performer

I think the lyric is perfectly fine  There's a lot clunkier stuff on here, haha.

Anyway, I like some stuff from the second half, but I think the original half is stronger. I still think this album is pretty good - better than Midnights, and better than a lot of the discourse suggests.

again I think that line perfectly fits the sentiment of the song.

Could I name a Charlie Puth song that isn’t from a Fast & Furious movie?

    …No.

The lyric is clunky but I really doubt it hurt Charlie’s feelings.

There's been a lot of talk about what lyrics people don't like so I thought I'd post some love for one of my favourite sections on the album.

"If you know it in one glimpse, it's legendary
What we thought was for all time was momentary
Still alive, killing time at the cemetery
    Never quite buried
You cinephile in black and white
All those plot twists and dynamite
Mr. Steal Your Girl, then make her cry
You said I'm the love of your life

You shit-talked me under the table, talking rings and talking cradles
I wish I could un-recall how we almost had it all
Dancing phantoms on the terrace, are they second-hand embarrassed
That I can't get out of bed 'cause something counterfeit's dead?
    It was legendary
    It was momentary
It was unnecessary, should've let it stay buried

    Oh, what a valiant roar
    What a bland goodbye
The coward claimed he was a lion
I'm combing through the braids of lies
    "I'll never leave"
    "Never mind"
Our field of dreams, engulfed in fire
Your arson's match, your somber eyes
And I'll still see it until I die
You're the loss of my life"

Not surprising that the best lyrics on the album are the ones that aren't dependent on her meta

+1 for the Charlie Puth lyric being fine. I think people just want to clown on her and are always looking for the next sexy baby, spelling is fun, this sick beat, etc.

The Charlie Puth line is perfectly fine. It provides context.

Still haven’t heard the album yet (tomorrow!) but her putting out 2 hours of music and only really seeing the same 3 bad lines floating around is a good sign

My FYP on Tik Tok right now is just people reacting to Daddy and Broken Heart, and I’m thinking either one of those would be a much better choice for a lead single.

Yeah, I’m officially just saying that Anthology is a bonus track CD. I’ll never return to these. The first CD is just so vastly superior. 16 great tracks.

  23. Gonna love in 6 months when, like Evermore, us cool kids are vindicated by the second album reaching peak "shit this is the good stuff" fever pitch. :winkkiss::ok:

(Third listen this morning to the full thing.)

Evermore wasn’t a snooze on my first listen, though. That was my favorite Taylor immediately on first listen. This second disc really just sounds like listless rambling over Aaron Dessner loops. No Cowboy Like Me, no Ivy, no Coney Island.
