The only albums I've truly liked that Jack Antonoff has had any part in are Aim & Ignite and Being Funny In a Foreign Language

This is how corporations work. Flat growth isn't enough. They always have to do better than the previous year.

she is capitalism incarnate and capitalism demands record growth year over year

“imgonnagetyouback” lyrically is “we have ‘get him back!’ at home,” imo.

The fact that I’ve already settled into listening to the Anthology version on shuffle is a bad sign for how I feel about this as “an album.”

Idk, I frankly would welcome a Taylor album that sounds like local native’s hummingbird

My dream/nightmare is she takes them on tour. Dream because would be rad to see them play such huge shows. Nightmare because I would never be able to get a ticket to a show haha

The kids saying WHO IS COURTNEY LOVE ANYWAY when she was dissing Taylor is wayyyyyy more egregious to me.

  12. gotta imagine her next album is like “after so long in the darkness, she steps into the light” or something and makes a record that’s a little brighter and more upbeat

i get that's how it works. my point is that despite the monetary gains, repeating this cycle over and over is likely to be somewhat detrimental to both her brand and her individual well-being. unless she stagnates releases, i don't think this constant string of successes is gonna last.

she's released nearly 200 songs in the past 5 years alone, and combined with her touring schedule and other commitments, that can't be the best for her health. on the business side of things, you have to have innovation in your approach to maintain some sort of success. although there are many factors at play that determine when innovation takes place, it's obvious that she can't keep up this approach forever. this is the first album cycle of hers where i've heard even her most dedicated of fans say they're tired of the constant cycle of releases, the merch/variant drops, the onslaught of bonus tracks, etc. it just makes sense from a business perspective to let her works breathe for a little bit before dropping more. take a couple years off and build that anticipation. release fewer tracks (even if you write a ton). build up demand. take a nap! the payoff will probably be better than releasing 2½ albums every year.

200 songs in five years? Damn, I didn't realize it was that many. Not even Rivers Cuomo does that.

Is that counting each re-record, because I very much would not include those in the count

I think she'll take a break after the re-recordings and the era tour, especially since 13 is a big number for her so album number 13 obviously has to be her masterpiece

I think it is. Doing quick math off the top of my head, I think all the tracks from Lover, folklore, evermore, Midnights, TTPD and all the vault tracks, its still something like 150 new songs in 5 years. Pretty wild.

Ah I actually just did the math for real lol. So including everything I mentioned about plus the one off singles (Christmas Tree Farm, Carolina, You're Losing Me, etc) and the features on that Ed Sheeran song and Big Red Machine, it's about 140.

I'm surprised the Swifties haven't announced they found indisputable evidence against her for Kurt's death yet.

Odds on her making a Coachella appearance either tonight or tomorrow? Either during Lana's set tonight or Bleachers' set tomorrow.

yes. even though they're rerecordings, they still add up in the count of songs she's recorded, released, and promoted in the last 5 years. and she's probably got more she hasn't released to add to that total, be it rerecordings or new material. i know artists talk about writing a ton for various album cycles, but they only end up recording a handful of them. to do this for 5-6 new albums since signing with Republic - on top of rerecording 4 older albums and multiple songs from those sessions - just feels like too much.

20ish from Lover, 17 from folklore, 17 from evermore, 22 from Midnights (excluding remixes with guest vocals), 31 from TTPD, a Christmas song, two soundtrack appearances, two songs with Big Red Machine, one with The National, an Ed Sheeran remix, 26-27 from Fearless, 22 from Speak Now, 30-32 from Red, and 22-23 from 1989. that's roughly 218.

    This is me trying

    Weird thread.

Album is miles ahead of Midnights. I'm stoked with the double album. I'm happy with the lyrics and variety of musical stylings. I'm impressed, as always, with the production. Am I over the moon about every song and every lyric? Nope. But I'm happy to see her approaching the perfection that is folklore - and I think this album is up there.

Not as big on side 2. That's the side that I find much more plodding. Maybe it'll grow on me? So High School is very good - more alt Taylor would be cool, though Olivia Rodrigo is ruling that realm.
