And like I frankly found the 16 track version overlong, bloated, and largely a retread of stuff she’s already done better. what is another 15 songs gonna do here?

I've been surprised at how much I've gone back to it. 5-6 songs I just can't get enough of on there.

    OK!

I kind of assume it's a continued exercise in raising the bar higher:

    -folklore: surprise
-evermore: hey look it was actually two surprises
-midnights: at 3 am here's a ton of surprise bonus tracks
-tortured poets: at 2 am surprise, there's actually a whole second album

It's for the spectacle and it works imo! Though to be fair, on one listen I don't really think there was a huge quality swing across either half of the tracklist, most of these songs fall squarely in the 'very solid Taylor Swift songs' range for me.

Jack antonoff is such a good producer and people would view him much more favorably if they admitted what they don’t like about “him” is really just artists bringing mid material to the table

"everything he makes sounds the same" is such a bananas take to me. he's got sounds he's revisited more often than others, but he's tried so many different vibes in the last 5 years alone, idk

I laugh at the the people who say "We need someone to save us from boring, samey Jack Antonoff!" and then point to Aaron Dessner as the man for the job. I like Dessner's "thing" a lot, but he's way more of a one-trick pony.

this might be incredibly overstuffed, but it's been more enjoyable of a listen than the Bleachers album (even if both have some of Jack's best work)

As someone who is both a huge Taylor Swift fan and experiencing an immense amount of Taylor Swift fatigue, I can't say i was excited going into this thing. I haven't made it through, but so far, my very rudimentary thoughts are that there are more highs than lows, it seems to have more interesting things to say than Midnights did, and the fact that I'm enjoying it despite how much I've actively tried to avoid her lately due to fatigue must say something.

The new bleachers album is really really good and I’m not a big bleachers fan.

"You needed me, but you needed drugs more"? Has Taylor been listening to the Jimmy Eat World classic "Drugs or Me"?

  18. I don't think this album is supposed to really be anything more than "a very solid Taylor Swift album." There aren't any huge pop summer bangers or anything. The first single is indicative of that too. It's a pretty mellow, heartfelt, late night sad drinking at home by yourself kind of album. Kinda like a modern In The Wee Small Hours or something. And I think it works great as that, while also having a few moments where the listener can take a breath and smile and maybe even dance a little bit.

  19. they need to go back to full time ASAP and capitalize on the Swifties

I've already taken note of what their Spotify monthly listeners is at today (498k). Lets see how much that changes in the coming weeks.

this is also obvious, but just because you can raise the bar doesn't mean you have to every single time. in spite of her songwriting talent, my biggest annoyance with her is this obvious desire to constantly do it bigger and better with every album cycle. more album sales, more songs, more Grammy wins, more vinyl variants, more streaming records, more tour dates, more more more, etc. you already have a dedicated fanbase and guaranteed success. you've oversaturated a market you've essentially created. isn't it tiresome? like just take a little bit of a break, because it's getting overbearing at this point.

Bleacher's s/t is their best album and I'm shocked that I'm saying that - grown to really love that record. Certainly going to keep spinning it through the summer too

I just really miss when her albums had energy to them tbh. It’s like she found this muted approach in folklore and evermore (which are great!) but now it just kind of runs through everything she’s done since in a way that makes me feel tired and bored
