I can't emphasize enough that the Boston Accent is a borderline myth perpetrated by Marky Mark and it's one of many reasons I hate him.

 

I hate my voice.

 

Sometimes I cant even read your post because of that accent.

 

the boston accent, much like the "new york accent" which is basically just a brooklyn accent, is widely and highly exaggerated by media. they both exist, but are nowhere near as egregious sounding as movies and television make them seem.

My brother dated this girl who had a solid Boston accent. And she would go on Food Network for baking shows and they would order her to ham it up as much as possible. It was weird.

For nearly every 1,000 people from the Boston area you talk to, you may catch 1 person with the accent. Prob closer to 1/250 for the Revere and Chelsea area lol.

Related: No one who has lived here for more than 15 minutes has ever referred to the city as Beantown.

 

My mother in law has a very strong Boston accent but my wife doesn't at all (hers is closer to Canadian (yes she says "eh"))
