Blink album is good but one more time is as bad a song as they’ve ever done (feel free to exclude ones that have aged poorly from that assessment)

I think that song is in the upper half of that album and Blink's catalogue in general. It really works for me.

I'm no huge Blink defender, but "horrific" and "emotionally stunted" seem like such hilariously overblown adjectives to me to describe a song about aging, mortality, perspective, and friendship. I'm curious what exactly it is about that song that offends you so?

    hmmm

These comments piqued my interest enough to listen to it for the first time and it's just a standardly mawkish acoustic pop-punk ballad; bad in the same way that a hundred other versions of that song are.

yup. just extra insultingly basic coming from a successful career act.

It is nowhere near as bad as Edging, a truly bad song, but the lyrics kinda stink

As our rock bands age, you're going to get a lot of "We finally realized what was important to us" songs. You either buy into the sentimentality or you don't, but it's just odd to me that anyone would find it particularly upsetting or off-putting. I roll my eyes so much more at the 48-year-old making a masturbation joke.

Edging is fun and catchy so I give it more of a pass, but both are guilty of “band tries to recreate what they did well 20 years ago and comes off washed and corny,” which is especially noteworthy when so much of the rest of the album shows that’s very much not the case. A particular bummer in OMT’s case because it’s legitimately awesome that the song exists at all.

I buy into the sentimentality, just not the execution of it for the most part

Yeah Edging is easily the worst song on that album.

I didn’t grow up actively listening to blink-182 and would largely consider myself a “casual fan.” But, I thought much of that new album (and the narrative around it) really worked, and I’d include “One More Time” in that.

Granted, I’m very much so the kind of shameless softy at heart to be a sucker for that brand of relational sentimentality, lol.

Well, it sounds horrific musically, so there's that, and the lyrics are just, like, bad? Great subject, bad execution.

EDIT: It's not the sentimentality, as others put it. It's really only the execution.

This is very valid, but I have to say that unless a song is "slow", I don't think I register their lyrics at all lol
