Yeah I think it’s true that James was much less involved in the writing process. But - still leaves a bad taste in my mouth the way they put it out in the public like that.

i thought the writing thing was obvious though. correct me if i'm wrong, but hasn't the writing always been handled by everyone except Grant and James? the difference with the newer albums was that, iirc, Grant and James didn't actually play on Erase Me and Voyeurist, whereas they might have during their T&N/SS albums?

that was my understanding, but yah the liner notes confirm it was just the other 4 who actually recorded all the music.

the song “Clean.” was on repeat for me for WEEKS. I honestly don’t even know how to describe this band, but their artwork truly aligns with the visions in my head when I hear their stuff. It’s great.

feel like I remember reading once, like WAY back in the day, that this was a weird byproduct of anxiety or similar issues. Not sure how it translates, or to what degree it excuses/explains it, but fwiw it seemed like there were compounding factors.

I think two things can be true at the same time:

    1) Aaron can be a jerk to fans (met him once a while back and he wasn’t a total jerk but he wasn’t pleasant either lol)

    2) It must be exhausting having to deal with aggressive fans ordering you to bring back someone to the band

he could easily ignore the comments though

I think that’s easier said than done. They’ve been dealing with this most of their careers too. It’s now James but in the past it’s been about bringing back Aaron and before that it was about bringing back Dallas lol

I know some of the inside info about the whole deal with James. At the end of the day, there was a disagreement with the band and James and it was a legitimate financial reason. They didn't see eye to eye, and they had to go and make the choice to ask him to leave. James was their accountant and friend, and it wasn't an easy choice. After hearing all these James comments, I understand how disheartening and taxing it can be to them. There are always two sides to the coin, and I understand they had to make a choice in the best interest of the band as a whole.

It looks liked they finished recording the new album yesterday from what I can gather on Instagram. In talks with people on their old label, it sounds like they had an album ready to go after Voyeurist that was pushing in a different direction and it was scrapped, or partially scrapped. And now they've gone back and recorded something new.

We reach for the longest shadow

It's always fascinating to me that someone can be in a band for that long and have ZERO songwriting credits. It seems more logical that he WASN'T allowed to bring ideas to the table, and has always been barely a step above a touring member than that he didn't want to/didn't have any contributions to the songs he spent years playing.

Interesting. I had heard it was a whole album's worth of songs. Very excited to hear about this new direction regardless.

  25. I loved Lifeline and Let Go, but really excited to hear they're going in a bit of a heavier direction for the full album. I wonder if it'll be some time before we hear it? Would they want to announce it during the anniversary tour?
