Will def consider the Boston show, just absolutely loved this album which sent me on a discography run and realized I really, really love Ruston Kelly’s music.

  7. Yeah, really lovely EP. I still prefer the album version of "Mending Song," but this one fits the EP nicely.

Jesus, this version of "Cold Black Mile". should've been the album version

Yeah the more I think about it, the more I feel like he made an error not using the hotel version of “Cold Black Mile” on the album (if it existed at the time). I get that the piano version gives it a different sound, but it would have been a perfect echo of “Mending Song” closing out the A Side.

This tour was amazing. Boston show was fabulous. VIP was amazing too. He opened with Closest Thing which my wife and I's wedding song. He remembered us from winning the contest to meet and see him in Nashville last summer which was a nice cherry on top for me.

Yeah I was able to catch him in Madison & it really was something special! I’ve seen him a couple times now & this intimate setting really exceeded my expectations.

This. Just that would make the album like 5-10 percent better.

Ruston performed a new song "Baby" from his upcoming new album in Brooklyn. No mention of a release date or title but it sounded like he has already written a batch of new tunes. He described "The Weakness" as an experiment and now he is assembling the OG Team from the first 2 records including his dad Tim to create the new album. It will still be a new sound but expect more of his "bread and butter" as per his words.

I'm someone who loves The Weakness and it's what got me into Ruston, I hope he doesn't abandon that sound entirely. I would like a meeting of the 2. We shall see...

    Things have changed.

He has a TON of songs in the works and seems to be revisiting stuff as far back as Dying Star for this one. Should be great.

Yeah at the boston show one of the QA questions was "how would you describe the new record?" and he said something along the lines of it being foundational, that is going back to more folk roots but taking what he learned during the weakness into account as well. Jarred K producing, more harmonica, TK, etc.

If he plays some new stuff in Charlottesville I will absolutely be that gal sobbing.
It’s also refreshing that he’s doing this tour with no openers. Just him! (I’m old now)

He did play baby and morphine last night, talked about his new stuff and said he was a “menace” in Charlottesville. Hands down the best stage banter I’ve seen in a while.

oh, and in terms of covers? When in Charlottesville, you must play Dave Matthews. It’s an…unwritten rule? (But we also got some John prine, so that was nice)

I really hope he doesn't abandon the Weakness sound entirely. Add "The Watcher", "Heaven Made The Darkness", & "Nothing Out There" to the tracklist and this album is up there with the best stuff he's ever done. It feels very much to me like a spiritual successor to Dying Star, much moreso than Shape & Destroy.
