This is one of the major areas it felt like they were purposefully trying to steer very clear from, which is a strange choice given the subject matter of the movie.

When I first heard about this movie, I was curious as to why Alex Garland chose to tackle this subject, and honestly pretty excited to see what he wanted to explore. After watching it, I still have no idea. And I would say I am a fan of his. (I've never seen Men.)

I think cherrywaves post on the movie’s point are correct it’s just so surface level that it doesn’t really achieve anything

Honestly, this came across to me a lot like this Dave Bautista movie from a few years ago called Bushwick that I watched on Netflix one time when I was sick, where some unnamed militia is attacking NYC and Dave Bautista runs around with some girl and a bunch of people get shot and killed all around. Even the effects and everything were pretty similar.

Fine I guess, but I think I was expecting and hoping for a little more coming from Alex Garland.

To defend a movie I havent seen and probably wont like. If Alex thinks media engagment cycles and conflicting political ideologies are pushing the US towards a civil war its antithetical to then produce a peice of media that contributes to that.
He is producing propaganda, media primarily used to influence or persuade an audience to further an agenda, the agenda of not having a civil war. Pragmatically to move the needle the furthest it needs to be apolitical and wide reaching which has hamstrung it from being a more interesting piece of art.

Plemdog continues to excel at being a somewhat dimwitted psycho.

I know him and Kirsten Dunst like to work on projects together, but Alex Garland should be VERY thankful that he took the role in this one - he owes Plemons one of those fucking Tom Cruise cakes or something

I liked the performances across the board. The characters the journalists ran into could have used some variety though. It all felt like nothing but bloodthirsty yokels, outside of the shop clerk.

You know what would have been a good movie? Michael Bay’s Civil War

also, where was that rando 3rd army guy hiding the whole time the corpses-being-dumped-from-a-truck-into-a-big-mass-grave/Plemons-sprinkling-some-lye scene was playing out??? kinda looked like he jumped outta the cab only after Stephen McKinley Henderson biffed his 2 buddies with their car. - it's like his job was only to drive the truck, not help with the bodies / terrorize other non-combatants, but then when the shit hit the fan he was like "oh crap, I better go help"

you just singlehandedly made me appreciate this movie exponentially more. give it all of the Oscars right now.

Bay could make Annihilation but Garland could never make Transformers Revenge of the Fallen

  24. I don't know about this but without seeing this film I am willing to bet Ambulance is better than Civil War
