if they wanted that then they should've went to the blasting room, all the current albums recorded there sound extremely well

Thank God the songs themselves are good on this album because that's what's keeping me spinning this one. It was a fun one at the gym this morning. I bet these songs will sound awesome live.

these songs are great i agree but holy shit the mix is fucking terrible, this is hands down the worst produced new album i have listened to in a long time from a veteran band, you'd think on their tenth studio album they would know how to make it sound good but the volumes are all off, can't hear the bass, the vocals are way up front, very bummed.

    Sounds like demos/unfinished products.

How can we Kickstart a remix/remaster for the band? Let's make it happen. The Strung Out Facebook groups would be 100% on board.

To confirm, did Jake not write or record anything on the album? If so, it makes sense because the solos on here are pretty weak compared to their other albums.

Correct. The producer (who Jason chose) wanted nothing to do with his songs, except for Plastic Skeletons. Jake did NOT record anything on the recored despite writing Plastic Skeletons. His solos he contributed were rewritten by Rob, at Jason's demand. Jason says Jake is too metal, and Jason seemingly is jealous of Jake's Gimmes gig.

  10. There’s too much drama known bout a band like five us listen to here :crylaugh:

    But like…Where’s Chris?!

What a strange beef. I did the meet and greet thing with them pre-Covid and Jake, Chris, and Rob were the most fun to chat with. Jason was kind of distant. RJ was like an excited kid just happy to be there. All seemed well at the time.

Does Jason own the band and have the rest of the members as employees? How does he have these dictator rights over the group? With Jordan I thought there was a consensus within the band to kick him out, but this sounds more like Jason acting like he’s the boss instead of an equal member of the band, and the rest of the band going along with it.

    Yes, it's me

Mild take: Strung Out is one of those bands that I wished sold out just a little bit back in the late 90s/early 00's when a lot of their peers were dipping their toes into major label contracts (Less Than Jake, MxPx). I think they could have been moderately successful in the mainstream for at least an album cycle or two.

Also, off-topic, I was shocked when I looked at the streaming numbers between LTJ and MxPx. LTJ has double the monthly streams 10s of millions more streams in their top 5 tracks than MxPx. I had thought they were relatively comparable in success but I was wrong.

Bad production and mix aside, I’ve been really enjoying this record

I take guitar lessons from Jake online, and he has told me a bunch of shit over the past year. I'm sure he does the same with everyone else he gives lessons to. Also, Brandon who used to run their website talks to Jake weekly and has said that Jake is done with the band, they just haven't announced it.

Funny because this band is at their best when they lean into the metal stuff

That was always part of their appeal - metal but in a major key.

Yup I've been talking with Brandon. Looks like you're in the Facebook groups Chong.

And yes, according to Jake, Jason runs the band like a dictatorship. He threatens to quit if he doesn't get his way. He knows he's irreplicable as the singer/frontman.

There was a podcast interview with Jordan from a few years ago where he mentioned that Jason gave the other band members an ultimatum where either he or Jordan will have to leave the band.

I was chong138 on the Strung Out board forever. I was the boarder who recorded all the audio from the live shows I went to and posted it.

They are great. He will show you how to play whatever song you want. He will also send you videos afterward to remind you what you went over. He has shown me Mind Of My Own, Savant and Cult Of The Subterranean along with a bunch of riffs and practice stuff.

He blew my mind when he told me that he borrowed the idea of the Savant riff from Root by the Deftones. I couldn't believe I had never noticed it before.
