Sprained my ankle/foot really bad and is the worst pain I've ever had. Feels like a knife is stabbing through my foot any time I step on it. To make matters worse, it's my driving foot, so I'm probably not gonna be too independent for the month. Also have to WFH in bed to keep it elevated which is depressing and I miss my dual monitors. I'm less productive.

I also just feel awful that my fiance has to do a lot for me right now, her mom's dying and she is barely holding it together. She doesn't deserve this, I feel awful about it.

    Ugh.

Required to work from the office 3 days a week now.

Give it another year or so before we’re back for all 5 because, “well we’re already here for 3, why not 5????”

    Fuck off completely and entirely.

  5. My city is in the path of totality for the eclipse on Monday and I helped organize a weather balloon launch experiment for one of my departments. That was my part of the job. Now everyone is being told to work from home because traffic is going to be absolutely gridlocked, except my boss wants me there for "moral support." There is absolutely no way I'm gonna make it across town. So I'm gonna be stuck in a car/not get to see the eclipse with my wife because my boss wants me on-site for an experiment I'm not even a part of, because "he'd rather be home with his daughter too, but this has been planned for months."

Nothing changes if I'm not there! I shouldn't have to suffer just because you are!

I love my fiance and accidents happen but I really just need a place to vent right now. Today we went to my dad's and she backed my car over a curb and into a huge fucking rock and wrecked my car. The corner of my bumper is detached, my muffler is rubbing against the tire and the end of the exhaust pipe is crunched a little bit. I'm crushed. This was my first nice car. 2019 civic with only 14k miles.

What I'm really confused by is how she managed to cross two lanes of traffic to do it and why she kept hitting the gas once she made impact. But I don't want to make her even more upset.

I did just kinda in the shock of the moment angrily yell at her "you wrecked my fucking car!" and I do feel bad about it. I've totaled two cars myself, I know shit happens.

Fuuuuck. The day after my accident, I just happened to get renewal documents for my auto policy. Apparently renews next month. Hadn't even filed my claim yet. So even though I can get accident forgiveness on my current policy, I might still be screwed as of next month

This also sucks because the other month I had state farm quote me half what liberty mutual is currently charging me but I just didn't get around to making the move haha.

I can't stand human beings. I'm so pissed at the whole world. Everyone is so fucking selfish and it gets me the most when I'm in the car. I used to be fine, but I'll watch people go through red lights, not yield, not use turn signals, cut people off because they were in the wrong lane on the highway while others have been in that traffic for like 20 mins. I genuinely can't stand other humans right now and I don't know how to deal with it.

I just want to be a calmer happier person.

I came to this realization a few months ago and finally stopped for good. It was that mental shift that got me to put it down and keep it down. I've been better for it and if you think it would benefit you then I'd encourage you to take a break as well.

It’s a factual statement that the 8-10 consistent people I work with are total fucking idiots and every communication with them is either fixing their fuck ups, giving me new work, or trying to stop a future fuck up. It is exhausting and they never learn and my boss refuses to do anything about it even though it’s been a weekly request of mine for two years to get people that actually know what to fucking do and get rid of these potato brains.

And since we gotta go back to the office 3 days a week starting in a few months, there’s absolutely no incentive to stay anymore.

The huge con of still living nearby your parents. My mom sends me weekly check in texts every Saturday night. Last night I texted back but my phone had a connection issue and failed to send. I slept in late today and didn't check my phone. I just got a cop knock on my door from my mom showing up freaking the fuck out worrying that I was dead.

Jesus fucking christ. I am 35. I thought I escaped this toxic weird neurotic "gotta constantly worry about my mom overthinking about me so she doesn't flip out" bullshit that has wreaked havoc on my mental health a long time ago, but my phone doesn't send one TM, and I take my eye off the ball and don't look at my phone one day and here we are again.

Ironically enough, I came to this thread to make a post also complaining about parents but in a different regard @Halitosis Jones but I definitely feel your pain and have been in somewhat similar situations.

My frustration is that my step dad is a huge drunk. Usually a functioning alcoholic somehow but most of the time still a total shit show. He calls me at least once a week to pick him up from somewhere because he’s too drunk to drive at least he knows this but still, fuck off.

We (sisters and my mom and I) have literally bought him fucking cots, bedding, etc. so he has shit at his business, friends houses and local bars where he knows the owners and they would and have let him sleep over when he can’t find a ride.

I usually avoid answering his calls/texts so I don’t have to go get him and the only reason I do, like tonight, is because I don’t want him being a bigger piece of shit than he already is and hurting someone else.

It’s fucking 8:15 pm and I have to go get him instead of enjoying my night and he’s interrupting me eating dinner. It’s been this way for two decades. I’m 36 and I have never once called him for a ride, as it probably should have been way back when in my 20’s. But no. Our entire relationship is flipped. I’m the adult, he’s the obnoxious fucking man child who can’t act like an adult for more than two straight hours.

(Uber, taxis, buses, Lyft don’t really exist in our city for some reason or would take 50-60 minutes before they can get to him which apparently is too much of a hassle).

My mom had a years long functioning alcoholic phase that reached it's peak during the time I moved back in with them for a few years in my 20's. She would down an entire bottle of cheap wine every single night, she convinced herself it wasn't a lot because it was only two glasses, but they were filled to the brim. She would say horrible emotionally abusive shit to me while drunk all the time (which she couldn't recall later) and then blame me for her drinking. Coincidentally she stopped drinking after I moved out.

The absolute worse part of her toxicity and drinking while I was living there is I wasn't able to have a normal social life. Say if I went out to grab a drink with co-workers, she would scream at me before I left " You're going to die if you go out! Something horrible will happen. I want you to say here safe with me!", and just trying to guilt trip me into staying in for her sake. So even I did go out it was impossible to enjoy myself.

Also I would always catch her peaking in my room staring at me while I slept in the morning, and one hot day I took my comforter off and used it as like a body pillow. I got woken up to my mom ripping the covers off my bed. I was like "Wtf are you doing?!?" and she said she thought I had a girl in bed with me. I stopped for a sec and was like " wait I am in my late 20's, if I had a girl in my bed you would angrily rip the covers off while screaming at me in what would be the most humiliating moment of my life?" That's when I knew I needed to gtfo outta there.

    Emotional abuse is a bitch.

I’m so sorry. I’ve told my wife and sisters that I hate being around my mom when she does the exact same thing you’ve just described with her nightly wine drinking. I was always able to tell when she’d reached her point of no return because she’d suddenly get real chatty and start saying emotionally abusive, manipulative things that, yeah, she’d totally forget about later. And if you ever repeated it back to her she’d just dismissively hand wave you away and say you were “misinterpreting” her. “I would never say that,” “I’m sure that’s not what I meant”, “you’re being ridiculous,” etc.

Fun concoction of emotional abuse, narcissism, and gaslighting all rolled into one.

Me, wife, and dog just moved from Austin to Charlotte and 3 days later we feel like we made a dumb mistake. Me and wife have the exact same feelings too. We allllllllways told people "Austin is great and fun, we think Texas is charming, there's always something happening, and it's insanely dog friendly...... but we want to live closer to family (even though we are still 10 hours away so we didn't even really accomplish that by moving to Charlotte)"

Ugh 14 month lease and now if we want to buy a house we put ourselves behind the 8ball because we will have to get jobs again and redevelop stable income.

Or a year later we learn to like this area but idk man.

So I haven't gotten a new glasses prescription in about seven years and I have so many marks on my lenses now and the glare protection is slowly scratching off that it's made seeing through them a real pain. I finally decided to stop dragging my feet and go get new glasses and figure out what my prescription looks like these days. Little background on this, in high school my right eye started to float so I failed my eye exam and was made to go to the eye doctor. Eye doctor apparently didn't think it was enough of a big deal to warrant giving me glasses so they told me I was fine and sent me home.

    Well. I wasn't.

As I got further into my twenties it got progressively worse to the point that I could no longer control it and my vision got blurrier and I kept having to shut one eye at a time to see or read because I was seeing double vision constantly. Had that eye doctor bothered to do...something, anything really, my vision might not be what it is today.

So I went in and, of course, my vision has gotten much worse in the last seven years. When they test me, they have to put prisms in so that my vision lines up and it makes me so nervous because it really is just kind of eyeballing whatever you think really looks about right when your vision finally lines into focus. So I did the test and felt a little unsure about it and then this guy on the sales floor kept pushing progressive lenses on me because he wears progressive lenses and looked at my chart the doctor had given him and felt like it looked somewhat similar to issues he has with his own eyesight. He just kept telling me, "this is what you should get. This will work for you. You'll be so glad you did it later."

So I paid the extra money and ordered them and waited a little over a week to get them until they finally came in. I excitedly went to pick them up and put them on. Immediately something just felt...way off. With my old glasses, everything pulls into focus with no struggle at all. Always has been like that from the start. My eye doesn't strain and float and I can see clearly. I told the doctor at the time that I was, however, always experiencing issues with reading up close because my eyes would tend to want to start pulling double vision after a while, but it wasn't a problem with long distances.

But now, with these new ones, it's the complete opposite. Everything right in front of my face is sharp as a tack. Any further than that, however, and my eyes are straining like hell to focus, things look weird and blurry, and far off distances especially are an absolute struggle to see and hold together as one image. The progressive lenses, meanwhile, are giving me serious "fishbowl effect" and the ground looks like it is constantly rising up to meet me. I move my head around and my eyes are immediately giving me double vision as they're straining to shift focus in another direction. It's just all wrong and I have been feeling nauseous for days with awful migraines. I think I'm realizing progressive lenses are just 100% not for me at all and I'm pretty sure the prescription itself is off. Going back in this weekend for another test and then ordering new glasses again while I get a refund on these ones. I'm just disappointed because my old ones (which I'm currently wearing again) are so old and marked up and are literally being held together by glue (I can't close them anymore or the arms snap off lol).

I won't ever order glasses from the eye doctor anymore tbh. Instead I order from Zenni. My eye doctor always tells me my glasses look cool, they pass all the vision tests they have me do with them on, and they're like $300 cheaper

I bought nice Ray Bans from my eye doctor a month ago, assuming they would order me a fresh pair, but they gave me the display pair they had and just had my lenses put in them. Well, I think some asshole with a big head stretched them because even though they have the same carbon fiber arms as my previous pair, they are wider and now sliding down my nose, and the arm keeps coming loose and needs to be screwed in again. I don't think my eye doctor does returns, and I've waited over a month bc I've been too busy to go during work

100% i buy online now. Have done past 10 years. Easily save £100's. I even say to opticians, can you even get close to this price? I dont mind paying a bit more to get them instore, and they just shut their sales pitch down. Mental.

I know opticians and mates friend owns a boutique sunglasses firm. They make so much money off glasses its unreal. Thats why ive no sympathy getting my eye test and boosting.

The glasses industry margin is insane. Worked for Luxottica (Oakley, sunglass hut, and Rayban, target optical, lenscrafters, etc) and the cost of one pair is like 12-20 bucks for sun and a little more for prescription to them since they own the manufacturing process well.
