Fall Albums (Encore Episode 136) Podcast • Page 2

  1. To preface, Summer is usually when I listen to the loudest music and the fastest music, and simultaneously anything I can kinda vibe out to, which mostly consists of dream pop type stuff and lots of hip hop.

Fall then usually exchanges the loud, fast, heavy stuff for a different kind of energy. Think more orchestral pieces, more intricate instrumentation, and as the season gets closer to graduating to the next, the soundscape-y, more atmospheric feel becomes stronger. The "chill" stuff from Summer finds itself appearing in Fall, but in a slightly different way as well. Mellow vibes of dream pop turns into the twinkly guitar-taps found in a lot of emo. "Cookout music" hip hop fades into primarily acoustic or piano driven music, with the occasional folky flair. And of course, anything that resembles Brand New.

There's for sure a late summer transition period where I listen to a lot of grunge-y stuff and folk tinged rock.

Some fall essentials that come to my mind:
    Moving Mountains - Moving Mountains
    Augustana - Can't Love, Can't Hurt
    Cassino - Sounds Of Salvation
    Copeland
    Noah Gundersen

  2. Also, @Thomas Nassiff Heavyweight is awesome. Haven't gotten through all of the episodes released quite yet but I'm super impressed with those first two.

For fall albums, Loom - Pompeii is right up there with Moving Mountains' S/T for me. Also everything The National has ever written.

Gave this a listen yesterday so I'm a little late

Both Microwave records, Superheaven's record, Transit Listen and Forgive, The Flatiners, and Elsie are usually my go too.

Also love how I myself got onto a Weakerthans kick because of Heavyweight.
