They gotta be physical enough to beat physical one on ones but I feel like your view of an X receiver is pretty limited. It’s not just the big slow guy. It’s the guy who is the most creative about releases off the line, which often goes hand in hand with a lot of other route running skills.

There’s a reason why the X receiver is the best receiver on most teams. There are exceptions and if a X receiver’s skillset is versatile then they’ll move him around, but that’s still generally the trend. You can’t be UNphysical and play X cause you will get bodied, but physicality doesn’t have to be the primary emphasis of your game either.

These humans both play WR. One of them is clearly playing at the x position.

Ja’Marr Chase is also an X receiver, illustrating what I’m saying. Is he weak, no, he can handle abusive press coverage, but physicality also isn’t his main game, it’s just a feature

When I argued that you were being too specific with your demands, you said that's just what an X-receiver has to be.

I'm not going to go through and count them all but this isn't true anymore either.

Chase and Higgins split that role.

I’m saying that they have to be able to high point the ball, but that doesn’t mean they have to be the “bully” type. I think Adonai Mitchell would make a solid X for example. But you can’t be Kirk and get bodied at the LOS and try to slink low and catch the ball behind the defender, leading to interceptions, and be a good X.

We did go through and count them and it is still true. You pointed out like less than 10 exceptions on 32 teams.

Like, your X receiver simply has to be able to win with a guy directly in his chest. Both at the line of scrimmage and the catch point. How they do it varies, but as long as you can separate from excellent press coverage by yourself with no help from motion or wrinkles / picks and can consistently beat the CB to the ball with limited separation then that’ll work for X. Some guys like Metcalf / AJ Brown do it by being bullies and varying their speed, some guys like Justin Jefferson do it with elite footwork and body positioning.

Okay so basically what I said. It's not that deep. I was literally just saying that 188lb Khalil Shakir is their big guy. And a red zone fade typically involves high pointing the ball.

I remember we went through them and then you argued relentlessly that many people who weren't X's were in fact X's.

It’s easier to “double” someone if you have a CB pressing them at the line and a safety over the top, so often times physicality (while required) isn’t enough for your X and they have to be able to plan out fakes that can catch the safety outta position too.

It’s just when we talk about this you seem to suggest I want one specific type of receiver and that’s not true, but I do want someone who can handle the demands of X which we don’t currently have. There’s multiple ways to skin that cat. They have to have physicality but really the point is they have to be extremely well rounded and great at playing mind games not just running their route. It’s not just “get me the biggest strongest receiver” cause that’s Keon Coleman and his route running sucks too much to play X. It’s “get me a guy with ENOUGH physicality that is so creative he’s impossible to predict and not automatically taken away by a CB with good fundamentals”

Well, you do specifically reject anyone that doesn't fit into the exact type of receiver you want and my qualifications are simply "is he good"
