My die hard Vikings fan father in law is confident Sam Darnold will lead them to the playoffs hahaha

Yeah I got that wrong. Oh well. I still find the move very inoffensive lol

He makes under 20m every year under that remaining deal. His most expensive years were out of the way

Tbf it's the Minny 2nd so it could be earlier, i think for sure earlier than Houstons anyway.

These guys want guaranteed money, the guaranteed WR money is going to Nico

Yeah I think even at worst if it was an early 2nd I still think I’d do it to get aggressive on the cusp of a SB and to compete with KC while Stroud is still on his contract with Nico about to get paid

It's the contract move that makes it bad not the move itself. I loved it when I thought they were getting Diggs for 4 years with an AAV sub-20m.

It's also a good gamble on the depth of this year's draft as a whole (moving down in the 1st to ride with 2 2nds) vs the depth of next year's as a whole (having a 1st and a 2nd and losing the extra 2nd)

I think the big picture looks very good and clear

Diggs is not a robot though, he's not going to be happy with no guaranteed money after this year

I really do think this was a stipulation to make the trade happen

What still annoys me though is missing on Swift/Barkley and having to trot out Joe Mixon

That makes this window feel a lot less fun

    Is that not concerning?

It was for sure, let him ball out for a year and then go make bank at 32 with another team that gives him the highest guarantees

Nah I'd rather do it, ain't my money and like you said before it's about a player with the ceiling of "top 3 in the league" and a floor of "your WR3 when you have Nico and Dell"

I'll take the rental and let someone else pay the price if he balls out, and know what I'm doing next year otherwise

Buffalo trading it's only established weapon and paying a huge sum for Houston and Diggs demands to have his contract cut to a one year deal and somehow this is genius for Houston?

Right, this is not Madden. Players want new deals. Haason Reddick wanted a new deal after his first year of the three-year deal he signed with the Eagles. No way in hell was Diggs just going to play out the last few years of his contract with no guaranteed money left in it

I'll firmly argue I do NOT want to extend Diggs

Watson's was too when he demanded more money (strong example but still)

  21. CarpetElf

    benjamin please Prestigious

Oh yeah absolutely not. He'll be wanting 30.

Also fwiw I don't think "having to cut the deal down to 1 year" is "genius" but moreso just a part of the cost and the way it had to go to happen, which given the pick exchange feeling SO cheap makes it make a lot more sense

No I meant the deal as a whole being praised like it is. Teams restructure and add in guarantees all the time

    I think it's a good move as a whole

I don't think it's "winning a trade" and/or uprecedented but a good move at the right time

I don’t have a problem with the trade for the Texans. God forbid he walks next year and they just take a swing on a rookie in another good WR class
