Stuff to do everywhere and you don’t need a car for any of it. Also talent is everywhere and people can really surprise you with a whole spectacle when you’re just walking down the street. Like when we saw that kid kicking an older man’s ass in chess just walking through the park

I understand the negatives of NYC outweighing the positives, but I don’t understand acting like NYC doesn’t have any positives haha. Not liking big cities in general is fair but among big cities it’s pretty amazing

Yeah, like I'm hesitant about moving to NYC should i get a job opportunity, but it'd allow me to continue not owning a car (yay bay area public transport rn) and let me maybe get out of my shell a bit more.

(lol who we kidding, i dont like going out)

The one thing I don’t like about the majority of NYC is there simply isn’t enough nature and the parks outside of Manhattan’s Central Park aren’t actually that great. DC’s parks and Atlanta’s parks are literally better even if they don’t have anything like Central Park.

However, you can go to Staten Island or the Catskills mountains for that and that’s some pretty good nature, though at that point you’re probably renting a car not taking transit.

This is just the part of the discussion where I can verbally understand but not emotionally understand introverts and vice versa haha. I go stir crazy doing the same things and eating routine meals in my apartment all the time. Having stuff to go do nearby and neat places to walk is really important to me, and I enjoy the variety of “I’ve never been to this street / this restaurant / this bar before, let’s try it and see what’s up”

    The rivalry is back on

NYC is cool to visit but is at or near the bottom of the list of US cities I’d like to actually live or work

Portland, OR is probably the biggest city I could see myself living in, and even then I'd probably bounce out to like Tigard or Lake Oswego or something.

I can have some of this in rural areas if that rural area really has some elite small towns and nature, but those specific rural areas are also expensive now and are no longer cheaper options. Like, I’d live in Asheville all day but at that cost I’m better served in a stronger job market. And even in an Asheville I’d eventually feel like I’ve been everywhere and all my friends always wanna hang out at the same spots etc… where that’s not an issue in an Atlanta or a DC/Baltimore

but living in north Georgia for awhile, there was a point where going to different hikes and waterfalls and lakes and gorge overlooks and other nature spots etc almost every day was just as fun as hitting different bars and shops here. the town of Lakemont had a nice system of bike trails and the nearby towns Helen and Dahlonega were pretty cute. With a car, I could do something like that for awhile (though the risk of feeling excluded from society there because I’m black is more of a risk)

I've lived in 3 of the top 7 metros and am likely going back for Round 2 for one of them.

The suburbs of Portland look extremely nice so I could do that. But it would also be so damn cool to be biking distance from all the popular breweries and music stores and shit. Take a bus to a Blazers game idk.

In what way have you lived in 3 of the top 7 metros?? Only top 7 metro I recall you living in is Atlanta and that’s like borderline top 7

are you counting the like 6 weeks you spent in Oakland as “living in the SF metro” lol
