Almost definitely lowered his cap hit this year while also giving him more guarantees / job security than he had

Do you believe another team is going to pay Reddick a big enough contract to qualify for that high of a comp pick?

He's not exactly a system-proof defender and he's already hit free agency twice in his career where he went 1/6 and 3/45 respectively, so not exactly a hot commodity... and this time he'll be a 31-year-old UDFA in a market where Zadarius Smith, Jadaveon Clowney and Leonard Floyd all essentially went 1 yr/10-12M this past free agency.

It's not a given but he's a top flight edge rusher so someone will throw a bag (they always do)

 

unless Reddick just falls off a cliff or gets hurt

 

If another team was going to pay Reddick the contract that would net the Jets a good comp pick, he wouldn’t have been traded to the Jets

Eagles are taking a risk hoping that Huff can take a big step forward

 

I don’t fault them for wanting to get younger and cheaper than Reddick though. There’s a chance they continue to be dogwater and blow up the team after this year so having Reddick in his 30s on a big contract in that scenario wouldn’t be ideal

 

Huff is already really good, like mentioned though he's just a pure pass rusher, not a complete player but what he does he does well

 

They would have reduced his cap hit for this year by over 11 million dollars if they did extend him, so idk how them choosing not to is somehow proof that the Cap is this incredibly strict and hard to manipulate thing, as opposed to simply businesses will pay people want they feel they're worth, and won't pay more than that no matter the circumstances lol

He was gone at the end of the year anyway, so they're paying $20 million in cap space in exchange for the draft pick, vs him walking away for nothing.

 

This would also be a good season for Nolan Smith to actually show up and play football in the national football league
