yes, and acknowledging it as the "gentler side of man-kind's death wish" which I find very apt since the waste is made in service of art.

Idk, there is nuance there but I mostly feel like that there are greater factors destroying the environment that deserve to be called out. Calling out artists for selling vinyl and/or collectors who only want to best support an artist—just seems misguided.

Mail day. So happy they repressed S&S with the cards.

I'm all for the use of recycled materials for records. A few companies are already doing it and the sound quality is on par with traditional records. There's really no reason not to at this point. I do regularly reconsider engaging in this hobby as there's no doubt that record production is bad for the environment.

You’re obviously right on all accounts but I think the larger still-missing point here is just that of the greater ills of consumerism. I collect plenty of things, including vinyl, so I’m not innocent here but when you think about it collecting anything is really kinda messed up lol. This definitely isn’t the first time I’ve questioned the “morality” of continuing to buy dozens of things that largely just sit there, even if they are supporting art and relatively low on the environmental degradation scale. Not sure there’s really a fix here given, as you said, how many bigger fish there are to fry, but I think it’s a solid point to make regardless.

Saw Alan Sparhawk from Low last night in front of about 100 people. One of the most original musicians I’ve ever seen live. So happy to have this signed.

the blessing and curse it is to have a partner who also collects (TCGs like Magic The Gathering, and more recently Lorcana and Star Wars Unlimited) so we're both guilty of this, lmao

Mh wife and I have an agreement, however many records I buy dictates how much she gets to go buy clothes or whatever she wants, and vice versa. Helps keep us both in check lol.

This happens with us but it’s mostly with clothes. I justify some shoes, her immediate reaction is, I need new jeans.

    England.

Over the years I’ve started to wonder if maybe just maybe my partner believes me when I tell her they’re all “pre-orders from a while ago.” In my head she’s buying it… but in reality she’s just humouring me to let me carry on with my collection. I suppose that’s why we go to work most days to be able to buy the things we want. Disposable income is a glorious thing.

Do I bother complaining about this? I haven’t spun this yet, but have to imagine play will be affected. Of course this variant sold out too.
