The AFC south is tough to predict, gonna come down to coaching.

It’s hard to be upset that the Texans are favorites cause all the faces of their franchise (Ryans, Stroud, Will Anderson Jr, Tank Dell etc) are new kids on the block that are already extremely good and you wanna root for. Even I am kind of a fan of the Texans right now despite them being a direct rival (although them signing Mixon helped correct that a bit, FUCK Mixon.)

I’m sorry @CarpetElf, while I agree with you that Levis is the worst QB, he fucking easily has the best recievers and that’s gonna make them an upset threat. Hopkins and Ridley may be getting old but Hopkins is still a dawg, likely will retire as a top 15 WR all time… and Ridley as WR2 is just a disgusting amount of luxury haha. Plus DHop has always been a Jags killer and Ridley will have revenge motivation. I could see them playing a legitimately bad game for the most part and still getting away with scoring 27 points and beating us.

Colts just somehow manage to be so methodical and so good at being a “standard disciplined team”. Even if AR15 is too reckless to reach his ceiling they’ll still go fucking 9-8. I’m afraid of what happens if AR is good, cause it’s downright impressive theyve stayed in the conversation post-Andrew Luck with 40 year old washed Rivers, 40-year old washed Ryan, and Gardner Minshew filling in for an injured rookie.

All that said, Jags still have a superbowl winning coach, and still have a QB I wholeheartedly believe in cause 1) his skillset is a rare combo of outstanding classic fundamentals mixed with new-school mobile quarterback traits 2) and he hinted in 2022, with four multi-score 4th quarter comebacks including a 27 point one in the playoffs, that he might have the “clutch gene”. A lot of good franchise QBs had a slump somewhere in years 2-4, annd it was so clear to me a lack of good playcalling flow and offensive support contributed HEAVILY to his.

Our issues are glaringly obvious but fixable and we still went 9-8 in back to back seasons despite them. The Texans and Colts are annoying right now and definitely gonna be tough to deal with, but they are not our father. We went 3-1 against them despite a ‘23 season that was by all accounts incredibly disappointing. Jags 100% still could win the division.

There's an argument for Houston, Jacksonville, and Indy winning it. Tennessee could finish higher than 4th but I don't see a way they win the division.

If Jags go 9-8 for a third straight year I will lose it. Doug and/or Baalke need to go if that happens.

I could see it in specific circumstances only. If CJ Stroud gets hurt for several weeks and if Press Taylor’s still calling our plays that opens the division for them imo hahaha

Jags absolutely gotta fix WR and CB in the draft. And absolutely gotta get Doug Pederson calling the fuckin plays.

if they do that, they can go toe to toe with Houston.

if they don’t then yeah another disappointing 8-9 win season incoming

I don't predict injuries but yes, if teams lose their best players then that would change things haha.

Gotta be Baalke. He’s the one doubling down on the offensive line and addressing literally every other priority except the biggest ones. He’s gotta knock this draft out of the park to prove himself right.

Baalke does not coach. And the Jaguars have never hired both a GM and HC simultaneously. It has to be both.

And what makes it weird to me is, imo Baalke’s only bad FA signing this cycle was Gabe Davis. Everyone else is a good player where we need depth for cheap, or Arik Armstead who is a perfect fit for what was our third huge hole. Kinda hard to be like “we had our first winning seasons in a decade and 7/8 free agency signings were good and I like Trevor and Travon Walker. Fire him.”

But I’m absolutely not sold we have two starting cornerbacks and two starting outside receivers on this football team. We bolstered up the reserves but we still need talent at the top. It’s like while his individual moves have been decent to good, big picture we have the most obvious problems because he’s doing things backwards in terms of actually supporting our QB

Top tier talent doesn't often hit free agency. Calvin was the top tier WR haha.

But Trevor is in year four now. Why do we still only have secondary weapons for him. I love Kirk and I love Engram but 90% of other promising young QBs have something even better (…and then there’s Lamar Jackson lol)

Herbert has nothing, if Lamar has nothing then neither does Mahomes. Kyler too.

We should for sure add a weapon tho

Should’ve just been a priority in the draft much sooner is my point. Establishing a very strong QB/WR tandem early on could’ve been a shortcut to all this shit. When you look at other recent fresh-rebuild teams who got lucky and drafted a good QB prospect like us… you can’t build a complete team in two years, but the ones who just score a lot of points and win games they shouldn’t win anyway with a roster that still has 3 holes… usually they have that 1300 yard receiver leading the QB through tough third downs and late game situations.

So here's my thing: It's a long shot for the Titans win the division, but in a universe where they go 1-1 with each other, which isn't wildly unrealistic, the Titans at least have a big advantage in having some #4 division seeds on their roster vs. the Texans and Jags having 1 and 2s. Scoring the Chargers as opposed to the Chiefs is a bonus for the Titans.
