I don't understand (but I do) how there hasn't been an entire overhaul of safeguards around child acting spearheaded by like a board of former child stars. Just like on set tutors we need like on set therapists but then they'd prob find an unethical way to control who those ppl are too and everything feels terrible.

Its sad being reminded of the light in Amanda's eyes and how much personality and charisma she had versus when I see her tiktoks come across my fyp

Yes! That’s where I keep landing in my head and Nickelodeon is already doing exactly that, as seen by their statement shown at the end of every episode. They know they’ve been caught, but they’re also very good at obfuscating the truth because they’ve built a studio system out of that process. So they know how to shuffle the board and give the appearance of change while doing just the bare minimum to enact any real meaningful changes. They’re trained professionals. They know what they’re doing. Do just enough surface cleaning to make the general public feel satiated and then carry on with business as usual.

My wife looooooved Amanda Bynes growing up and she still follows her just to keep an eye on her because she genuinely, legitimately worries about her and tells me from time to time how sad it makes her and how scary it is to watch. You watch anything she ever made throughout her career and then see her now and it’s heartbreaking and terrifying.

Just seeing those Amanda clips from her early days, she was such a natural talent with so much energy and charisma and seeing her now, it’s clear that the trauma she experienced and her struggles with mental illness have changed her.

I agree with everyone else that there’s a very scummy tabloid feel to this whole thing. Like, any time a docuseries does “the creepy close-up” on some still image of a person, it’s just comes off as cheap and weird. The sad thing I think this is a rich topic to explore, but you would need HBO-caliber talent to do it, not ID. They just do way too much of a messy, slapdash construction for it to be effective.

  4. Is it an ID show being hosted on Max or something? I didn't see Discovery's name on it, but it certainly felt similar and the spaces for commercial breaks were super noticeable

  14. Good for her. Let her tell her story her own way if she ever wants. They clearly tried to tell it for her anyways. No one should have to relive moments like that unless they're in control.

that was one of the things that really struck me from Drake’s episode… how he mentioned having to explain to investigators, in excruciating detail, what happened. It highlights why victims often don’t report anything. Easier to live in silence than to relive it with a bunch of cops/investigators.

I imagine Jennette McCurdy probably turned them down too.

  18. Also not to take away from what Bell experienced, but it makes a little more sense when you realize he was probably getting paid for an opportunity to rehabilitate his image a bit.

Not to take away from the main horrendous point of that tweet/story but that is a bizarre name for a kids tv show. Was “naked” like, the last name of the characters or is the word “naked” some weird slang/lingo that I’m unaware of? Very weird if not imo

Yeah always thought that was a weird band name lol. Alex and Nat Wolff had industry connections and it was a comedy so I always figured it was meant to be a comedic silly nonsense name. Never watched it but I feel like I've seen so much about young actors feeling uncomfortable with kissing scenes and having first kisses be filmed and it just seems like such a weird traumatic thing. Even when there isn't an appalling age gap like mentioned above. Reading about Jeanette McCurdy's experience in her memoir was so sad. But if it must be done (which it doesn't rly) idk why it's so hard to cast age appropriate actors

"The series' title derived from an incident when the brothers were very young: they came out of the bathtub and said, "We're the naked brothers band!" Although Nat revised the band's title to The Silver Boulders in preschool, Polly Draper revived it as she felt it would be more suitable for the show."

The show starred 2 brothers and was created by their mom, one of the brothers is the son from Hereditary
