Is there that much of a lyrical improvement in Chris’s absolutely vicious and scathing attack on his children in “Me and Mine”?

I know it was awhile back, it just pains me to know he’s so talented and could have had a good gig with a respectable band.

"I was like that once", Chris intones reminiscing on when he had emotions, because now he is dead inside.

I wish we lived in the universe where Eisley still existed/was the band that reformed. :-|

Eisley still exists AFAIK, it’s just Sherri, Garron and replacement parts at this point.

I don’t mean to be contrarian or THAT guy… but is anyone actually, and I mean actually, offended by these lyrics? I mean, they’re bad but they’re nonsensical and completely substance-less. They’re just word-vomit (or semen, rather lol).

I don’t think any of us are offended, just sad

I wouldn't say I'm offended, but also wouldn't undermine or downplay what's happening by calling them "nonsensical" and "word-vomit".

Max very clearly has a message and intent behind the lyrics, and I find that message and intent being represented in this way to be disturbing and gross.

But like… can you describe for me what that message is? Because I can’t.

He wants to help get his wife off.

There's been two articles posted either here or the album thread where Max spells it out, but it's about him wanting to be a disembodied penis his wife can use as a tool as a form of female empowerment.

Dashboard Confessional is hands down, the best third wave emo band I can ever remember.

I’m not offended by the lyrics, I just (to understate by a huge amount) don’t think they’re communicating what he thinks they are.

    This.

I mean, as a male, I guess it's not up to me to question if this song really approaches female empowerment in any way or if Max is just being aggressively arrogant.

But, and no pun intended, I don't think it is.

This song was already done way better in the 90's anyway:
