Did anyone else watch VR Troopers at the time? It was a pretty shameless Power Rangers knockoff.

 

it was moreso an attempt by Saban to create an official "sister series" to PR. Same studio and same producers. Beetleborgs was the same. It was the same people trying to expand their cash cow beyond their main product, I wouldn't call that a knockoff.

 

I remember having coloring books for all 3 as a kid but I don’t remember much of the plot or characters in VR Troopers or Beetleborgs

 

I don’t remember VR troopers but I remember the name beetleborgs

 

The VR Troopers opening credits come off like a Tim & Eric bit in retrospect

 

Yea Beetleborgs sounds familiar but I couldn’t tell you what it is.

 

Main thing I remember about Beetleborgs is that their version of Zordon looked like if Jay Leno was dressed as Liberace's ghost.

 

I watched both and they all ruled

 

I definitely watched both VR Troopers and Big Bad Bettleborgs and had toys for both. And followed Power Rangers from the beginning through… Lost Galaxy I think? I remember the finale of In Space being very satisfying and my interest beginning to wane afterwards.

Also that TMNT show that tied into Power Rangers. And that one, uh, Mystic Knights or whatever show?

 

the last Power Rangers I remember watching was probably Dino Thunder? Maybe a little of SPD?

 

I do not remember this and I really do not like this

 

Oh and Masked Rider I think it was called. The Kamen Rider one that mixed in with Power Rangers, which is funny given how iconic on its own the Kamen Rider franchise is.

 

I was obsessed with Power Rangers and watched through Time Force growing up. In between RPM and Samurai, I went back and watched MMPR-RPM. Watched Samurai for a bit then fell behind and binged it before Megaforce. I then watched Megaforce and Super Megaforce and then stopped. I’ve seen some of Dino Charge but kept falling off. I have seen the team up episodes of each of the seasons I’ve skipped. I then watched Dino/Cosmic Fury. Bought the majority of the Lightning Collection. I have a problem.

As a kid I watched VR Troopers, Big Bad Beetleborgs, and Mystif Knights of Terra Nog or whatever it’s called.

 

Oooh, yes, I watched Kamen Rider, too. I was the perfect age for all of that stuff.

 

I stopped watching Power Rangers in 3rd or 4th grade and Pokemon really blew up in 6th grade. I don't remember what I was doing for those few years in between. Final Fantasy VII was in that period but there had to be something else.

 

Were you into any superhero stuff as a kid, or was that never your thing? ‘Cause the 90s was peak time for kids cartoons based on those characters.

 

If they don't cast Dave Bautista as Bluto then wtf are we even doing

Beetleborgs and VR Troopers was Haim Saban trying to replicate the success of Power Rangers. Originally, Jason David Frank was going to leave the show after the green ranger arc finished and be the lead on VR Troopers. Brad Hawkins was supposed to be the white ranger. The whole cast of PR was threatening to leave the show over money and contract disputes and JDF was offered the white ranger role in exchange for staying. Brad Hawkins was then moved to VR Troopers. And then was the voice of the gold ranger in Zeo because they hired the DiFililppo triplets and hated their New York accents

Yet another conversation reminding me that I need to buy and revisit Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie so that I can become reacquainted with Divatox, who I simply must stan:

But do y'all remember this one? It was like Mortal Kombat meets professional wrestling.

 

I was more of an Astromena guy, personally.

 

I watched Power Rangers but couldn't tell you a single bit of lore because my childhood is a blur
