They gave Scorsese the lifetime achievement awards for The Departed and now he is on arguably his best four-film run of his career.

Some general thoughts on the awards, which I thought were the best they've been in years:

giving an Oscar to that shitty John Lennon animated short but not to Lily is wild

It’s the last one. I promise. Until I’m told to make another version

Possibly already been said on here, but The Ringer’s Sean Fennessy made an observation that Emma winning over Lily is pretty much a “The Curse” situation.

I was like "why is the dude who played America Farerra's husband in Barbie and only was in two quick scenes in the front row?" that is how I found out that is her actual husband in real life.

Yea, I have been seeing the animated shorts at a local theater for like 10 years now (one of my fave traditions), and not only was this years weaker in general, but that one was truly awful. Made with unreal engine and it had the most ham fisted messaging.

I thought Nintety-Five senses was the best one but then again, I've never been good at at picking the winners so I shouldn't be surprised the one I hated won.

I think that Lily Gladstone will get another opportunity in the future. Her next rumored gig has stacked talent as well.

Honestly one of the better oscar telecasts in recent memory. The pacing was good, it was over early, there werent as many dismissive "HA WHO WATCHES THESE MOVIES ANYWAY NERDS" jokes, there weren't any worst case scenario nightmare winners, etc

When I realized that this is an award show Taylor won’t be at which will be a nice break from Taylor-mania at everything only to have the Eras Tour Movie sponsoring the Oscars and multiple commercials for it haha.

We can never truly escape Miss Taylor Swift.

Definitely agree with all of this. I liked the live action shorts, but the animated shorts were severely lacking this year. But like you said, War is Over is maybe the worst short I've ever seen of all the years I've watched them.

None of the animated shorts were great, but they really picked the worst of the bunch by far.

Henry Sugar wouldn’t have been my pick for live action (Knights of Fortune and Invincible were a tier above) but I did enjoy it, so good for Wes Anderson.
