I like "Bad Catholics," but any song being a follow-up to "Lookers" is a curse.

For those that are bummed about the release date next year, I highly recommend checking out Arms Aloft's latest record, What a Time to Be Barely Alive. If you like that Menzingers/Gaslight blue collar Americana punk with good lyrics, go give that a listen.

It gets better the more you listen. First time through I knew I liked it, but as it gets familiar it just sort of hits you that this is really good.

This song kind of did nothing for me on first listen. Idk, maybe I need to listen closer and I'm sure it's got great lyrics (this band always does) but the neither the verses or chorus melody were hitting me.

Man, I am so excited for this record/this tour/this everything. I feel like everyone has a band or two that sets them back to being young for a bit, and as a 26 year old who often feels like a 50 year old, this is one of mine. I saw they were doing an acoustic in-store at Looney Tunes during release week and got so nostalgic. My most "siq brag" concert wise is probably seeing them play this setlist acoustic to like 100-150 people at like 1 AM. Brendan Kelly and Tim Browne of Elway opened.

I went alone because the closest to this brand of music any of my friends will touch is Streetlight Manifesto. The best part is, when I got to the show, there were three people in line ahead of me. One of them was Greg, probably because Knitting Factory doesn't have any sort of backstage/artist entrance. The door guy let him in as I was noticing it was him, and some dude walked up to me and was like "was that Greg just waiting patiently to get into his own show?!". That guy is now my best friend in the world and we both cite it as the best concert experience of our lives. We hung out after and got a little bit of time in to chat with Greg, Tom and Brendan, in which all parties were very drunk. It resulted in my favorite picture of me meeting someone (Greg, who is the nicest dude), in which the flash brightness to drunkenness ratio was a bit too strong.

Awesome story! I can't say I have ever met someone at a show and turned into a continued friendship. That's awesome. Only people I have met have been just temporary moments for that specific concert.

I only knew about em because Red Scare did the new record. I went back to Sawdust and their EP recently. They are so far under the radar was my main takeaway.

Their a less cheesy/"we get it, teenage angst" Beach Slang. Their song Untitled reminds of the Loved Ones in the best way. Dawndreaders was the song that hooked me in though. There's probably some Dillenger Four in there as well. I just think if people listen to Gaslight, the Menzingers, the Flatliners, the Bouncing Souls, etc. than this band makes a lot of sense.

I've never quite gotten their association with Menz outside of the two bands being friends, but it's certainly a good record. For a new listener going in, though, I think Nice Things is the closest song Menz have to Apologies. Definitely similar lyrical themes though.

I knew I would dig this Arms Aloft record when they referenced Loretta Lynn in the first song.

If we're sharing bands that Menz fans would dig, Spotify's Discover Weekly once pointed me to a band called ONSIND/One Night Stand in North Dakota. They lean to the political/folky end of things, but this is one of my favorite tracks, and they have a bunch of stuff on their bandcamp. Idk if you're already familiar with them @Zac Djamoos but they actually have a split with Apologies from a few years ago.
