And that's that folks! I'm flying back from the final 3 days of nofx ever! I'm so glad I bought the tickets on a whim...this was such a....it felt like an ending for them and for me. Let's do this.

So this was a weird 3 day punk festival because while there were dozens of legendary amazing bands, me and the crowds were all about nofx. Like, the bouncing souls, descendents etc felt like legit appetizers, whereas a normal punk fest they might be a main attraction. The crowds were still amazing and nuts and the pits were fun and intense...but the aura was "it's all about nofx"

The venue was perfect. For many reasons. It looked like punk California. You could see the Cali hills behind the stage and behind the crowd was the ocean and lots of ports and smog and rough edges. Honestly, perfect lol

Critique. The pacing of this festival wasn't great. First off, the shows ended st 915!? I know the joke is, people are old, but then instead of starting at 1 I figured they'd start at 3...but San Pedro must have a strict curfue or something. Also, they gave you about 15 minutes between bands, which was nice, but also just lots of standing around. There was an hour break before nofx! That was very odd. Also nofx took a 15minute break before each before. Super weird and I didn't care for it haha.

 

Now the bands that I saw.

Mxpx. I really can't see these guys at festivals anymore. I've seen them play essentially the same set every time and I think I've had enough. They're great, it's just time to retire them unless there's a good headlining show.

Buzzcocks. Crowd oddly didn't care. Maybe that's why nofx is retiring now. Don't want to be almost 80.

Dropkick. Man oh man I wish these guys would attempt to play old songs once in a while. Great as usual but just another very familiar set. They stopped twice because drunks kept passing out on the ground.

Nofx day 1. Cokie the clown was the outfit of the day. A lot of deep cuts. They for real didn't repeat any songs on the 3 days (except linoleum on day 2 and 3...sticking in my eye day 1 and 3). But that's it. A lot of rare songs, good mix. I loveeeeee stage banter and nofx are hilarious. They ended with "nofx theme" and Melvin doing accordian for like 15m. Very cute.

Day 2

Lagwagon. Hey! A band I've never ever seen love before. My favorite set of the weekend due to that fact


Less than Jake. I've seen them a million times but it still rules.

Descendents. Amazing but I lost my phone on the 2nd song and that killed my vibe.


Nofx day 2. Fat Mike in a dress day. They played all of my favorite songs in this day. Eat the meek and all outta angst and franco un-American.


Day 3

I got their late and saw only pennywsie who isn't really my Jame.

And then the finale....holy shift. The feels. The intensity. The set. The special guests. Everyone you'd imagine showed up...dexter, Tim Armstrong, circle jersey, bad religion, Feldman, Jarret reddick?, rise against...they brought out all the tricks. Ending with the decline was the way to go obviously.

 

But man so many emotions. When we were young felt like the end of my pop punk era...the finale of that genre...those bands I've seen a million times, finally putting them to bed

This was that but my fat wreck punk side. I really don't think I'll go to a punk festival ever again. Why would I? I'm tired of the short sets. I've done all the bands, all the pits. Just did LA for the first time. And what's crazy is that other than warped tour 15 years ago once, this was actually my FIRST NOFX SHOW. What a way for me to go out.


I'll still go to headlining shows if the venue and atmosphere and timing hit but yeah man. End of an era. And I love SoCal. I've come every year for the last decade essentially so it just all came together.

I watched the stream of all three nights. I thought it was a bit disappointing. No real deal speeches, barely any real guests besides having 100 people play guitar for 2 minutes, Mike mumbling or half sing lyrics he was reading off a teleprompter while he is high.

 

I saw them at Riot Fest all 3 days, 2 days in Columbus last year and Detroit a few weeks ago and every time was top tier and exactly what I would wanted from them. Especially looking back at some of the other times I saw them in the past 15+ years.

I really look forward to watching the streams and will deeply miss them for sure

 

Yeah the show definitely wasn't perfect and the vibes were odd..... but i mean, it's a punk band whose shtick is being smart asses and not emotional at all. The fans are the same way.

There was no real intro song or anything. They played the time warp but they just showed up. Then they did that 15minute break for their "encode"..and they kept alluding that they could play until 10 but they ended at like 915. Night 2 they played kill the white man and then said "good night"....and everyone was confused.

Night 3 was epic though I thought
