People's perceptions of Israel's attitude towards Palestine, and hell even Israel's own rhetoric back then at times, was a lot different than it has been lately I would think. Seemed like all anyone talked about back then was different peace plans and different negotiations going on to achieve peace and a two state solution and etc etc even after the intifada...Could call it naivety or lack of information with the internet still being young...But feels like all that talk has been gone since at least 2016 if not before that (Bibi's 2009 election maybe?) outside of being official US policy to state we want a 2 state solution lol. At the very least, waaaay more people seem to be aware of Israel's radical and genocidal stances on Palestinians now than seems likely in 2004/5.

 

And..also...it's a book about a zombie apocalypse! Unrealistic things are indeed happening haha, including Israel not being genocidal freaks. You can even find some bullshit reason the country felt they needed to do that if you really wanted to. "hey if we start building this giant wall it's gonna set off another intifada, maybe we should invite them in if we think the threat is this serious and should be priority?" etc.

 

You don’t have to defend every dumb thing. It had to have come out after 2004 because I read it when it came out and I was in college. I was also probably in ap.net posting about how bad Israel is because they’ve always been bad

 

2006 I believe it was published, so probably written in 2004/5

Anyway, just finished Superintelligence by Nick Bostrom.

If you want something else to add to your list of "existential dread about the future of the world" ... it's dense, but very good. And legit terrifying.
