If I had a dollar for every time I had that conversation in the late 90s/early ‘00s!

I totally forgot about this. I remember actively looking for full screen versions of movies/playing the full screen side of the DVD over widescreen. The first wide screen version of a movie I owned, I remember thinking it was the WORST. I was so mad lol

on the square tv's, widescreen would make the overall viewing picture seem so much smaller

Yeah, to be fair, before HD if you owned a SD square TV, you don't gain much going widescreen on that specific setup

I liked the widescreen on my square tv’s for years. *shrug*

As much as we clown on the Beatles biopics, the moment they show young Julian Lennon sad that his dad is leaving his mom for Yoko intercut with Paul writing Hey Jude I am going to weep like a baby.

I was just too dumb to understand why widescreen was better. I remember my dad trying to explain it when I was a kid and all I knew was these black bars had to be hiding something I needed to see.

The argument exists in reverse now. People complain old shows don't fill up their TV.

  9. this is why I didn’t like it. On a 27 inch square tv it made the movie feel smaller. Once you get an actual wide screen tv it’s great

Instead, your mind expanded as you saw the whole picture without pan and scan.

I sold my car yesterday and the guy who bought it was telling me how good the Bob Marley movie was.

I wasn’t about to blow the sale, so I just told him I’ve seen the trailer for it a lot.

  19. Haven't seen Tenet so I thought I'd go to the theater but it's not showing at my usual theater(s) and I'm too lazy to go to the one it's playing at

Watching season 2 of 24. This Kim Bauer subplot where she is rescuing the girl she nannies for from her dad, that is completely separate from the main terrorists trying to blow up LA plot is so bad

  25. Idk how to feel about that. I enjoyed Birdman and The Revenant, though I haven't gone back to either. Did not see Bardo after hearing it was bad.
