I’ve adopted her way of speaking when introducing new words/making connections. Our 15 month old can tell me when he wants up in my arms, when he went potty, and when he’s hungry. Very helpful even though he’s in a phase where he eats almost no solids all of a sudden. Still messes up some fruit and bread though.

I have to credit a lot of that to Ms. Rachel opening my eyes on how to introduce stuff better.

I've gotten both my kids very, very into Pokemon. We began watching the first season of the anime a few months ago and it's a full-on thing in the household. My oldest (7) has started earning an allowance and we go to the game store every week to get a pack of cards, and my youngest (3 1/2) loves Pikachu more than she ever did Elmo... thank god. I draw different Pokemon on their lunch bags every morning and my son's friends think I'm the coolest person on Earth.

One thing I was not prepared to do as a new-ish parent was explain the concept of death to my four year old. My dad died a couple of months ago and I finally told my son the other day. He constantly asks me now what kind of medicine can make him feel better and will invent new medicines that he thinks will help. The other day it was a Super Star Power Medicine that he came up with. It's sweet, and devastating. He's okay though so I'm not too worried. It's just tough to explain the finality of death to him.

I watched it every day after school on the WB and played the original games as a kid, so it's definitely nostalgic for me. But it's cool to see how each of them latches on to something different. My son may have a mild form of Autism, and he's very, very interested in categorizing all the different types, weaknesses, sizes etc. And my daughter just wants me to make the cute noises the Pokemon all make and draw whichever one showed up in the last episode.

Oh man, I remember deciding to show my son the first season of Pokémon when he was I think 6? Just had a gut feeling it’d be right up his alley.

    Oh yeah.

It was most definitely the right choice. I then started keeping track of where we were at so I could have him stop and watch the movies and specials at the proper placement throughout the show’s timeline and he looooooved that. We got all the way up to Black and White before he finally started to feel burned out on it because, you know, it’s fairly repetitive lol. He did skip ahead and watch some of Journeys because he liked seeing the new animation, but it was also, still, more of the same and he grew disinterested.

I then got him started on Digimon, which was my personal favorite growing up, and that was a blast to revisit with him. He now says he likes the Digimon anime more because there’s an actual narrative beyond “Ash catches Pokemon, Ash wins badges, Ash loses tournament, Ash starts over again somewhere else, etc.” but he still loves collecting Pokemon cards and playing the games (though he also gets tired of those pretty quickly). He collects Digimon cards now as well, but he’s had a hard time getting into any Digimon video games because, well, if you are a Digimon fan then you know pain. Not great! I got to take him to the theater alone, just him and I, this past November to see the new Digimon 02 movie and that was a really cool experience because they gave us free packs of new Digimon cards as well so he was excited about that. It’s so fun watching him turn into this cool little person. You really do relive so many aspects of childhood through your own kids again.

I also liked Digimon more. That original PlayStation game was right up my alley. I even had one of those Digimon tamagotchi-esque things I would take to school with me

We just got an emulator that has that game (along with a few others on it) so I’m looking to try that one next with him because I got him Digimon World: Next Order for the Switch and it was frustrating for him to understand the grind and mechanics of it. I’ve been told Cyber Sleuth is a good one, but I’m just not sure how patient he’d be with it. I’m just grateful he can read so well now because reading it all out loud to him could get exhausting.

Unrelated to the Pokemon party I just mentioned, for V-Day I made my kid this card. And we've bought cards in those Pokeball tins, and I've been converting them into like Pokemon homes. I'm just about done a Charmander one, and then Squirtle is next.

Well that puts my white board doodles to shame. I'd love to make these, how did you do them? What materials do you use?

The base is just a Pokeball from the card game. Then I bought 4" foam circles that fill in the bottom.

Everything else was just stuff on Amazon. A lot of the stuff was intended for like train displays or Warhammer figures

    The grass

    Little statues

Cherry Blossoms, mushrooms, etc, all just Amazon stuff. I knew what I wanted so searched for stuff like "minature cherry blossoms"

Stuff like that is all you need.

The water is actually toilet paper. You put it on a firm piece of plasic, I used a stencil kit , and use half parts water and glue and keep adding layers and wrinkles to look like waves.

    Then clear epoxy on top.

Here's the random Pokemon party we just had this weekend. All credit goes to my GF, she did all of it. She didn't know about Pokemon day next week, would have been perfect for that.

I thought about it, but they're super delicate (they are superglued, but still), I don't know if it'd be worth it.
