I don't think it's dumb to keep tabs on the business side of things if it's of interest to you, especially in the way of tracking improvement/decline of a promotion you want to see succeed. It's why I think it's important to criticize AEW when they do things that actively harm their ability to grow their audience and be sustained long-term.

So often, I think good-faith criticism over things big and small gets garbled up in the tribalism machine that is Twitter and voices with genuine things to say get lost to people pounding the table that if you don't blindly love everything WWE or AEW does, you're just a hater or a mark for the opposite promotion.

Like, I think it's poignant to acknowledge that AEW has an attendance problem and a ratings problem and we can speculate and disagree all day about why those things are happening, but it doesn't make them less true, or make the people discussing them a hater. Acknowledging those facts also doesn't mean you're forecasting their immediate demise, or wishing for it.

I feel like Dynamite is so incredibly lucky they didn't go up against Black and Gold NXT in the Wednesday Night Wars

Depends which version; black and gold NXT was a 1hr/wk show that was pre-taped like a month ahead. In this era of spoilers, it might honestly have had lower ratings than NXT 2.0 (despite having way better talent/presentation)

Felt shorter than that. I think Vince also had a hand in some of the booking in that time too unless I’m wrong

Vince was certainly not booking nxt. They had Cole, Gargano, riddle, Rhea, belair, Bálor, etc and they used to have main roster people show up fairly often to try to beat aew

AEW went up against what I would call the tail end of the peak of NXT. Gargano vs. Cole was a few months before the first dynamite. I’m saying AEW was lucky/smart that they didn’t have to go up against the previous 3 years PRIOR to when they launched.

Dreamer being head of creative for TNA might honestly be what ends them. My word is that a terrible outcome

That has been debunked by many people now, including Dreamer himself. The TNA creative team remains unchanged.

I discovered a few days ago that next month DPW are coming pretty close to me. Anyone watch that? Is there anything special about them or is just a regular indie? Their roster is pretty nice

I personally think the spirit of black & gold NXT died when they moved to USA/expanded to two hours and I just assumed the that he was referring to the heyday of the brand, prior to them actually matching up with AEW.

NXT was def both on the latter end of its peak but still very good, but nothing NXT could book could be as fun as our favorite indie wrestlers starting a promotion and succeeding like wildfire. it was just so fun. i unironically miss Janela and stuff and think it's bonkers AEW doesn't play into that nostalgia more than they do
