Yeah, I mean, I get the story beats and I guess I applaud them for not making it entirely random like they absolutely would’ve done like, two months ago. But, I don’t think it’s a wise idea to pair people who have JUST recently turned when you’re trying to sell people on a new character.

Especially well liked people like Hook/RVD, and disliked characters like Brian Cage. It’s just a mess. Tweener/New Face/Heel (who is in a faction with new face) vs. New Heel/Face/Face. Just…do something else.

Essentially, if you follow through with just having a six-man, you’re inviting people to just cheer their stars and not get invested in anything, which has been a very AEW problem for a while now, and something they’ve done a really good job at working their way out of recently.

i'm with you on it being pretty random! i could see Swerve and Hangman brawling to the back like right away and Joe smiling on the apron before shrugging and leaving Cage to the wolves too lol. i hope we get something like that

 

It really sucks that TNA has been doing so well and having such great stories/matches and now Dreamer is taking over. D’Amore not being there anymore has me super skeptical.

 

On a positive note, I saw that Jeff was actually able to finish that match with Sammy. I didn’t know and figured that they had to stop it. Hopefully he’s all good.

Yeah it’s real unfortunate. So much momentum is just crushed now from this news

 

I still don’t know what to think about the D’Amore situation. Obviously the current crop of talent wanted him there and the company experienced a creative resurgence under his watch.

But you also have the rumor mill circulating (namely due to Nick Hausman) claiming that D’Amore is definitely not a good guy and referencing his connections to known shit bags Chris Jericho and Don Callis. Hausman is the only one saying this, though.

I don’t want put too much weight into one “insider’s” claims but I also don’t want to outright dismiss/ignore it.

 

nothing towards you, but i am happy to dismiss it! Hausman is no insider, he is a jockrider who made one relevant friend that mostly tossed him to the trash but is happy to use him as a puppet again anytime he wants to talk trash on Jericho or get a bunch of eggs harassing Kylie Rae on twitter. i put him with Bhatti and the like

I love someone criticizing a random six man involving guys in a main event on the next PPV that will build the feud like that hasn’t happen a million times in every wrestling company that’s ever existed lol

y'all are really turning me off. @J12 has brought nothing but actual conversation to the thread. @oldjersey what do you expect when you just come here and go "YOU'RE NOT POSI ENOUGH JFG WATCH WRESTLING"? it's like you get out of bed and decide which extreme to advocate, but i haven't seen you talk much about anything else in weeks, so what would be acceptable behavior

 

stop being passive aggressive, we are adults and this is wrestling

 

sometimes I feel like the thread gets aggro when someone criticizes AEW (unless it pertained to women’s booking or Flair etc) whether I agree with the points or not

Just my two cents

 

I’d tend to agree, but there’s also a lot of hyperbolic criticism that leads to that. However that’s the IWC in a nutshell and I think we are still far more respectful than most. I’m moreso trying to have fun than be a legit asshole. None of this stuff really matters anyways and we are all fans of good wrestling.

 

i legit think almost every person in here gets overly passionate about wrestling on a regular basis, myself included. most of us are probably on antidepressants and the world is hell and bad faith is everywhere and our mood is determined by a hidden dice roll, but if we are gonna vague post people about how they feel about a six man tag they're not gonna come back and i've loved chatting with them

 

In other news

 

Cody Rhodes winning the Royal Rumble then telling the most prestigious heel champ of the modern era that he wants to fight him, just not at Wrestlemania, is the maybe most nonsensical thing that’s happened in a wrestling storyline in the past 12 months, but after WWE eventually got to Cody vs Roman everyone seems thrilled and more than willing to forget the road there was strange and made no storyline/character sense. I think the weird AEW 6 man tag mismatched partner match will be fine

 

I fully expect to take heat from most when I criticize AEW in this space, I read the room early on. It won't stop me from calling out things I think are dumb and counterproductive in either company. I'd say the same thing if WWE booked that match (and they have, a million times over in years prior.)

There is very much a tendency to deduce the most deductive point of the criticism someone is making, when I think everyone knows the argument is actually in good faith and always drastically more nuanced. @Shrek nailed the passive aggression aspect. But like, it's no big deal. It's just wrestling and ultimately I think we all want the product we watch be good and enjoyable and we have different expectations/standards for how to get there.

 

RVD on 4/20....I have to believe TK knows exactly what he's doing LMAO
