being a band called turnstiles in 2024 has gotta be tough

 

Cue somebody popping up to say: "Well, they cite ska as an influence! It makes sense!" Nah, it's weird AF. Haha. In contrast, having like, Hepcat or the Aggrolites on a show would be less weird.

They're definitely fans but... This would be like MGK talking about having pop-punk as an influence and bringing Diesel Boy or Nerf Herder out with him or something. It's not the implied energy nor what fans of the band want.

EDIT: This makes me like Vampire Weekend a little more.

Ariel from the Hippos has produced a ton of Vampire Weekend, that could be the ska connection

and Turnstiles are a Billy Joel tribute band that's playing the MSG shows as a kind of joke (hence the smiley face)
