As someone who went to graduate school (Masters in Public Policy), it most def is a scam. I was too poor to be able to quit my full-time job and take classes full-time, so I did a slightly reduced schedule of classes that kind of fit around my work schedule. Only that meant I had to take a 3rd year to complete the program, instead of the usual two. So the school decided to charge me full price for that 3rd year, so I ended up paying $20k more for that 3rd year, meaning $20k more than a student that went to school full-time, even though we both graduate with the same amount of credits. So because I was too poor to be able to afford quitting my full-time job, the school rewarded me by charging me $20k more than a normal student. Awesome.
