I know this is a late comment but Closer is one of the best most underrated Jimmy Ear World songs-- literally perfect placement for the guitar solo and the lyrics will demolish you

Yeah speaking of guitar work and bridges, that whole instrumental section in Closer is nuts

 

I had never heard Open Bar Reception until today, why was it left off of Chase This Light? Very reminiscent sound of Clarity/Bleed American I think

 

Kimmel performance didn't sound great. Whoever said it was lacking in reverb was dead on I think. Sounded like a very unmixed demo. Drums had no ambience to them and Jim's voice souned very "close". Straight into the board, completely dry. Good to capture a bit of the room ambience in a live recording I think.

 

That entire EP is criminally underrated.

 

I didn't realize how much I've missed your "GUYS! GUYS!" posts until I saw this.

 

The last few songs on this are close to matching the last few songs on Clarity for me; in terms of flow, etc

 

It's easily worthy of making the cut on that album I think, but they relegated it to a Japanese bonus track and a b-side on one of the Big Casino 7" singles. DAFUQ

 

Just hit play on this again and damn, the intro to "You With Me" does such a great job of priming the listener for this record.

Ah yeah I just realized that this morning haha. Wow the cover sounds just like the original..

 

Got through most of this on my bike ride into work this morning. It was a good listen and interview, but not as emotionally charged as Andy's intro made it seem like it was going to be.

 

Yeah, I mean obviously radio isn't anywhere near the "taste-maker" it used to be, but I still would rather have rock radio stations that actually promote new and diverse artists instead of... what we have now.

 

^^ agreed but then again the radio stations that play Cage the Elephant clones all day are really no better

 

Next time I hear Ophelia or Do I Wanna Know on my local radio station I'm going to go crazy

 

I'll stick my neck out here and say Sure & Certain is one of their best songs and probably one of the best songs in this sound I've heard in a damn while. Perfectly poppy and just really well written.

 

I would definitely put it as one of their best singles.

 

I think that Cautioners is underrated or just not very popular but I love it.

Well that it ain't, but its certainly solid and I never hear a thing about it

I think we did this before (or maybe it was in the band thread) but now that we have another title track, instead of ranking them, let's put them into a playlist (and no, @minty901, "World Is Static" doesn't count )

For me, it'd probably be –

4. Bleed American
5. Futures
6. Damage
7. Invented

I'm sure about the opening two and last two songs. I'm not entirely sold on that middle part, but I think it works.
