Well it's a real Heatmiser lyric, no? Half Right is a cover

What did they play on Kimmel?

I get that bands are promoting a single when they play on these shows, but I always prefer when bands change it up and play different songs from the new album on talk shows after they've already played one on another.

"I think we've paid enough" is one of my favorite parts on the entire record.

In an era where there's basically no such thing as rock radio and getting coverage is more and more difficult, that's not great strategy. You have to drum that song as many times as humanly possible in hopes that someone new might hear it. Ask Andrew McMahon.

I sent "The End is Beautiful" to a coworker this morning. She usually likes whatever new music I send her way and isn't really aware of JEW more than most casual top-40 listeners. She chatted me that she had goosebumps 20 seconds into the song. Got 'em.

I know that's why I said I totally get it that they are playing the same song, just personally miss the days of being able to hear variety. I just want more pro shot videos of new songs to watch haha

"Rock radio" is in such a weird place these days. There's either super safe "alternative" stations that play the same few alt pop hits, or super safe "mainstream rock" stations that are basically just hard rock for rednecks. Really weird time to be a fan of rock in the "mainstream".

And even then, that's getting rarer. Boston was a haven for that. For decades we had 3-4 rock stations operating at once. Now we barely have one left, and even that one is leaning mostly classic.

I don't even know that I've ever heard the original. But the singer of Heatmiser was Elliott Smith, if that helps

Yeah... I feel like the current radio formats that do still exist haven't helped, because if you're a current "rock" band and want to get lots of radio play, you basically either have to be VERY poppy alternative rock, or be like Three Days Grace style hard rock. Most other creative rock music being made right now falls through the cracks because it doesn't fit the pre-established formats radio has set up.

Yeah absolutely. Thinking specifically of WFNX that used to be in Boston, they would have been all over Tame Impala, off the top of my head.

id agree that Electable is under rated, as well as CTL title track. Cut is hugely under rated too.

It's the song referenced in the lyrics of "Kill" –

"Like your favorite Heatmiser song goes / It's just like being alone"

I swear, the rock stations just play the same five Twenty One Pilots songs over and over and not much else. There aren't really a lot of guitar bands left. That said, I did hear "Sure and Certain" on the same station the other day.

  21. So, as regards demos etc., what is there about that isn't commercially available and could thus be uploaded here?

I know they released the WHOLE of Futures in demo form on the deluxe edition CD, but aside from that I only know of various demos takes scattered among singles and import versions and shit.

Get Right reminds me of Pain, in terms of being a faster, upbeat track placed near the middle of the record and the fact that it's the first single.

Its funny that I always see this comparison, because Pain is way faster and more upbeat than Get Right. I don't think either were great choices as singles - seems like their single choices sometimes are geared specifically towards being the opposite of The Middle so they don't get pigeonholed, but brighter upbeat songs like Work or Sure and Certain are their bread and butter

  25. Top 10, maybe top 5 JEW songs for me. The drums (is it just me or does Zach Lind get overlooked when it comes to drummers in this whole scene??), the chord progression, that RIDICULOUS bridge. Damn.
