Seeing talk about the Mongols and the different Hordes makes me want to plug Powers and Thrones by Dan Jones. Thought it was a really good book for taking on such a wide stretch of history. Missing some detail because it covers so much but gives you a good run through of medieval history. Finished it a week ago.

  6. Added to my amazon list, I know about these things mostly from Europa Universalis 4 LMFAO. I have a folder of jstor articles I found googling things I saw in the game. I DO also have a history degree but I took more Early Modern and 20thc classes

I'm about to start the process of getting my Masters in US History via the online Gilder-Lehrman program at Gettysburg. I'm pretty excited about it. I've been hunting for an online or affordable masters program in Gov/Pol/Poli Sci but it's been near impossible to find one. All the ones around here in person are too expensive (fuggin UD), and I don't really want to go to one of those purely online schools. So, US History it is. This program at Gettysburg has a really good reputation and judging from the teacher list, some pretty well versed and well credentialed profs.

It's hard to take paper straws seriously when I keep seeing ads for the new Royal Caribbean Super Soaker of the Seven Seas or whatever it's called.

Typing this out reminded me to go check, and one of the courses I could take this summer is Reconstruction: Legal History and Legacy, the teacher being....Kermit Roosevelt III, Teddy's great-great grandson. I might choose to take that one just because it's him lol. It's also probably my favorite full semester course on the list, though History of American Protest and Early Republic are tempting.

It's one of those books that covers a shit ton of topics and gives you exposure to them, which I liked because it allowed me to find some subjects/topics that I want to find books that cover those specifically to get more color on them. I have seen one criticism for it is some people don't like how Dan uses current things as examples to medieval topics.

if you told me last week that I was going to wake up on my one day off this week and skip going to buy local honey with my dog and instead watch a 2+ hour tucker carlson interview, I would not have believed it, but here we are

I swear this is my last post trying to sell this thing, and I actually do not feel great about having gone to tucker carlson’s website and having increased his view count, but I can’t imagine not wanting to hear Putin talk at length for anyone interested in Russia or Ukraine or anyone even remotely concerned about the ongoing war

I am not sure what tucker carlson’s motivations were or what he thought he was doing, but he came off as woefully underprepared whereas Putin knew exactly what he was doing in that room

completely aside from whatever your thoughts are on the validity of what Putin says in the interview, it is extremely sobering to contrast Joe Biden’s absolute fucking trainwreck of a damage control press conference that barely lasted 10 minutes and did nothing but exacerbate every single issue he went there to try to manage with Putin using a publicity stunt by the former highest rated talking head on Fox News as an opportunity to deliver an extremely well articulated 2-hour lesson in Russian history & how he sees relations between his country & The West over the last several decades straight to the American people (where he also takes the time to humiliate tucker carlson a few times in very pointed, personal ways)

Only watched a few clips of it but watching Tucker's whole fantasy of Putin being some devout Christian leader come crumbling down was low key hilarious.

We only have so much time on Earth and I am not wasting 2 hours of it watching Tucker fucking Carlson interview Putin

I mean pretty much the whole damn interview has been clipped by non-Tucker affiliated people on Twitter as well.

  25. I've considered it on and off for a very long time but I don't think it would have much benefit to me professionally I really just want to write an oral history of legendary Connecticut jam band Max Creek who have been playing for 52 straight years with no breakups or hiatuses while playing thousands of concerts including ~90% in CT or MA
