    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

Ranking the ones I've listened to in full:

    SWYA
    TBC
    In Reverie
    Grapefruit
    STA
    9

But the top 4 are SO fucking good to me and 9 is the only one I think is just okay.

    1. Stay What You Are (best all around)
    2. In Reverie (most complex chord structures, trippy, beautiful, if this album was successful I believe they would have continued in this direction)
    3. Through Being Cool (classic bangers all the way through)
    4. Daybreak (also very complex musically with lots of intense but positive vibes)
    5. Can’t Slow Down - (catchy with tons of raw energy)
    6. Sound the Alarm (seems like an inorganic overcorrection after In Reverie, but since it’s Chris a lot of the songs are still freakin great)
    7. Grapefruit (super poppy but lacks depth… Remember, Lucky Number, and Ring Pop are up there with their best songs in their catalog)
    8. Under the Boards (some good songs but has more filler than most saves the day albums)
    9. 9 (some parts of 29 are soooo good though)

How do people feel about the band touring and being back together after what Chris did?

Don't feel compelled to see them tour anymore, but it's fun to rank records.

I’ve deleted all of their music from my Spotify and feel dirty listening to them. They did nothing to acknowledge the allegations or any actions they’ve taken in response to them. I can’t in good conscience let that slide. It really sucks because they are the first band I ever saw live and I love their music, but it just doesn’t feel right to me.

  10. I watched their set at When We Were Young. They had a big crowd and they sounded good, but I definitely felt disconnected because remembering all that stuff was going through my head. I can't imagine anyone who is in the know of allegations and stuff can see a band and not think about those things even a little bit. It took me out of it, for sure.

I know, I reallyyyyy wish they split it up so that one of my favorite Saves the Day songs doesn't have to be "some parts of 29"

First off, it's Chris' art and he can do what he wants with it, but I think it's silly that they've released so much fucking garbage after the dumb scene kid response to In Reverie, but he won't release songs like "Zebra", "Sister Sophia" and whatever else was left over from the In Reverie era. They are still seemingly guarded like they are state secrets while Chris puts out stuff like the last few albums. I understand that he probably doesn't have rights to the recordings from years ago, but why not have the new band do versions? Get what is likely some great In Reverie style music out there.

Anyways on that note, here's my rankings (also separated by tiers):

    1. In Reverie: by far the best album. His songwriting peaked here, and the band were super sympathetic. Songs like "Driving in the Dark" and "In My Waking Life" are masterpieces imo. Such a shame Chris couldn't have followed his muse and kept on this track.
    2. Stay What You Are: so much growth from the previous music. A high point for this style of music.

    3. Through Being Cool: dated kinda horribly for me, but it does sound inspired and has a realness that more "calculated" records like "the trilogy" don't.
    4. Sound The Alarm: overcompensating cuz the lame scene kids didn't like In Reverie. Went mall-punk, dyed his hair pink and acquired a British accent while singing. Nonetheless, Chris talent still shone thru with stuff like "Delusional" carrying quite a groove.
    5. Under the Boards: in my opinion, a middle ground between SWYA and STA, with a small dollop of IR. I thought "Get F***** Up" and "Bye Bye Baby" were great, and "Kaleidoscope" isn't bad. Besides these though, kinda had a b-sides from STA type vibe.
    6. Daybreak: I found this to be a real attempt to get back to something a bit more out-there and less punky after STA and UTB, but I just don't think Chris' songwriting was there anymore. The melodies are nowhere as sweet as SWYA or IR, and the lyrics try too hard and are also marred by callbacks to the other albums in Chris' trilogy.
    7. Can't Slow Down: it's fine for what it is, but it's just not something I would listen to these days. But it was well done for the time.

    8. Saves the Day: I was excited for this as the band was free from the trilogy and far enough from the major "scene days" that I thought they'd stretch out a bit. Instead what we got was a super poppy album with hackneyed lyrics and corny melodies. To me at this point there was no longer ANYTHING on new Saves the Day albums that could even qualify as a bright spot. The worst album from the band yet, until...
    9. 9: just so bad in every way. Mall-punk so corny and fraudulent it makes STA look like The Clash. If this is honestly the best Chris can do anymore, then wow. The embarrassing lyrics about Eben, the band theme song (a la Monkees or Aquabats), what a joke.

I wonder where the band would have ended up if Chris followed the path he was on despite the reaction to In Reverie. The first four albums were such an awesome evolution, and then (while still having some great songs) the last 20 years have sometimes felt more like a legacy act that still writes (wrote) new music. The only album that holds its own from the last 20 years is Daybreak. Whereas a band like Jimmy Eat World still releases material that ranks up there with their older stuff.

Seeing the band play In Reverie all the way through in Brooklyn last year was an amazing experience as that album had such an influence on the way I play guitar and bass.

If you think this is crazy, I'll raise you any Chris Brown related conversation that doesn't use the words ABUSIVE PIECE OF SHIT. But, honestly, there are huge swaths of the internet where it's gonna be tough to find conversations that acknowledge that Chris Brown is an ABUSIVE PIECE OF SHIT.

They aren't a direct parallel, but what I'm assuming they meant is that both of them have shown themselves to be abusive people, either emotionally or physically, and yet even after confirming it's happened there's still a bunch of people who don't care or hold them accountable.

Chris Conley was/is a misogynistic sex pest and people just casually forget about that or don't take that into account when talking about the band and the music.

I'm all for talking about the music as the band did mean a lot to me growing up, but to not even acknowledge it and then say things like "I wonder where the band would have ended up if Chris followed the path he was on despite the reaction to In Reverie", "If this is honestly the best Chris can do anymore, then wow" and "Such a shame Chris couldn't have followed his muse" because I would say I wonder where the band would be if Chris didn't become a toxic, alcoholic, misogynistic, controlling, dickbag.

Also all this stuff about the "mall punk" and getting a British accent is so weird.

Sound the Alarm is great. Fuck off with that noise.

    Edit: also so is Daybreak.

yeah I get that I just feel like a lot of people on this site when talking about pop punk artists usually default to the “yeah well look what that RAPPER did” talking point
