Dustin said during an IG live tonight that they’re currently working on the album.

 

Hey I was right!

 

Two weeks ago, they were "ready to start writing and recording." Then a new solo record and tour were announced. But if they're making the most of their time between tours, that's awesome. Happy to have egg on my face.

 

He also said the solo album has been done since last July. The band has had a lot of time to work on the new album. Again, if it doesn’t come out this year that’s totally fine. But it’s both plausible and possible. But nothing is guaranteed.

 

I worked with the information that I had at the time, meaning this morning. Riley must've been playing coy.

 

The new solo record was almost called "Country and Western."

 

I went with the information of it’s only February.

 

You hedged — despite Riley's words two weeks ago and today's newly announced tour through May — and it worked out.

 

He also said that his solo album had been mixed by July of 2023. So, there have been six months where he had that in the can and was free to be writing for *Horizons/West*.

The band has a few weeks of touring in February and he has April and May for his tour. That leaves easily half the year to be writing and recording, etc.

 

It’s February. That’s all I thought. Plenty of time.

 

Bummed I missed both pre order vinyl variants due to waffling over whether I can enjoy country music because it’s Dustin.

 

There's gotta be a generic pre-order at some point, right?

Yet another example of why they need to do a Best Of that rearranges their songs. This is awesome.

Yeah, that's great! I'd pay for an album of their heavier tunes reworked in the style of that great Polaris At Noon remix of Words in the the Water.

Been spending time with Beggars again recently, and dang, that album really is something special. “In Exile” remains one of my favorite songs… ever, in general? And “All the World is Mad” has only gotten better for me over the years. They really got the balance of rage and hope throughout the whole thing just right.

 

Same here, I've just got it on vinyl this winter, and it's beautiful, all the songs have got descriptions from every band member. I re-discovered The Mercury Program too (they were mentioned by Riley as a big influence in those notes)

 

Wish they would still add the commentary from everyone to their vinyl releases! I've got Beggars on vinyl as well, and that always made the format feel extra special, not to mention all the recommendations that came out of Dustin's lyrical influences and everyone's music tastes.

 

UK people: Does anyone want my ticket to the show in Manchester tomorrow night? Or know anyone who would like it? I’m happy to give it for free, but pay what you want.

My wife has been in hospital (out today thankfully) but don’t want to leave her here in Sheffield with our little one.
