Kind of sort of recent one? Idk you all be the judge. On the Rise Against/The Used show two summers ago the crowd broke the barricade during the last non-encore song, so after a really long time of venue security trying to fix the barricade, Tim came out and explained the situation said they wouldn't be playing their planned encore (Savior and one other song) and instead played Swing Life Away which wasn't on the tour setlist.

 

Death Cab For Cutie - Summerfest 2005. They ended with Transatlanticism and said they had extra time and it wasn’t planned.

 

It has happened to me the other way around too. The Who played Mexico for the first time in 2016, I checked the setlists from the tour and they ended every show with "Wont Get Fooled Again", so they finish the song and I left to beat the crowd. The next morning I checked SetlistFM and I saw they played 2 more songs compared to the rest of the tour. Not sure if they were on the printed setlist or if they were a real encore tho.

 

I know the poster was fake, but the irony is my first concert ever was Metallica at MSG in 1999….and there was no encore.

Good point. Unless I’m missing a very obvious answer, the only other band that comes to mind is Murder City Devils. But they’ve been reunited for a long time now…
