Do they really need to smear Vaseline all over the lens?

Bucky is definitely the highlight of the show far. Callum Turner is so good.

I just don't see how this can be any better that BoB or The Pacific. There's only so many ways you can show air fights. And they've already blown through that.

there is going to be an episode or two in this series that is going to change focus to fighter pilots of the Red Tails, so we're going to get another perspective of aerial warfare. Also there will be a point in this series where they pivot more to the experience of airmen in German POW camps. There is going to a point later too where their bombing tactics are going to change (they get fighter escorts, start bombing civilian targets). So we're probably not going to get the same type of action every time.

Overall I enjoyed these first two so far; several characters to follow, as expected, but their stories should develop as the show goes on. Yeah its a lot of CGI, but there's no real way around it in a series like this. Flight/action scenes staged very well, with gripping action. We're getting a real good sense at what kind of planning and prep goes into missions like these, the stress that crews experience. No real bitching and moaning from any of the crew; they knew how dangerous those missions were, yet went ahead with them anyways. Looking forward to the rest of this

Can't decide how to feel about this just yet. Character development seems to leave something to be desired, apart from Crosby. The other men, well acted or not, feel a little one-dimensional so far. We're missing the charm of seeing them get to know one another, which was accomplished so elegantly in the first couple episodes of Band of Brothers. Different shows, of course, but one might hope they'd have spent a little longer on the script to give the conversations between the men a little more pathos, at least when they're on the ground.

Missions generally look and feel excellent, taking into account the necessity of CGI that's been discussed at length. I don't know enough to criticize any military inaccuracies surrounding uniforms, insignia, etc, so I'll leave that to those with experience to tell.

I have seen a lot of people with Air Force experience very happy they gave props to the enlisted mechanics on the ground.

I didn't know that the Americans did daylight bombing while the RAF did night bombing because of difference in philosophies. I thought it was just "ok you take day shift, we take night shift"

thought this was rough. the obvious increase of CG and then general sheen that all of the Apple shows seem to have really rubbed me the wrong way. just have to imagine if this remained at HBO it wouldn't look this bad.

Here is an overview of the actual history (Will spoil some things obviously)

I think the Munster Raid where literally only a single bomber makes it back episode which I think will be either episode 4 or 5 is where this series plot will take a heavy pivot into different territory.

Hey I agree with the less than realistic CGI and the "sheen", but I still see the heart of BoB and The Pacific in there especially in the scenes with Buck/Bucky and Crosby. That's the main thing I care about.

One thing I haven't heard mentioned yet. It is hard to get across emotion during those combat scenes when you can't see the guy's faces. You can only do so much eye acting. You can't really get around that though.

For sure - if you're not Tom Hardy, facial obstruction is hard to act around.

first 2 episodes are good but it made me restart BoB with my girlfriend. The only CGI that really bothers me is when the planes are on the ground. The first episode of BoB has real planes, surely they could have some for the show about planes.

There are like only 38 B-17s left (only 4 that are able to still fly) and the vast majority are museum exhibits. I am guessing the cost and logistics of using those is way more than just simply using CGI. They could have done fiberglass mockup prop planes at least

I keep thinking it would be hilarious if in the final episode they are getting processed at the end of the war [with other former POWs , and they run into a mustached guy named Kurt who is like "what you guys did in Dresden is actually really fucked up"

For the budget of this series, surely they could have just commissioned someone to build a real B-17

Funny thing is, it sounds like they did just that, at least to a partial extent. But I agree with everyone's comments that the depiction of planes in a show about aerial combat leaves something to be desired.

Yeah I think the most damning comments I saw are like "the air battles look like someone playing War Thunder on a PS4""
