like all their albums, there are some undeniable bangers and there's also some irredeemable crap

Upon first listen, first half seemed a lot stronger than the second.

Albums sounds generally ok but the song 'Breakdown' is cringe. Lyrics in the chorus 'I'm about to have a f'ing breakdown, throw a peace sign on my way out'. Aren't these guys like mid-thirties ? yikes :tear:

    Damn, that's one awful artwork.

Fulfilling Josh's contractual obligation to write one song that feels like it could've been written by a middling rapper.

Breakdown by far the worst song on the record.

Admittedly after their last few albums I'd almost wrote them off, but I'd say this new one is their best album since 'Sinners Never Sleep'. As others have said here, some great tracks, some very meh tracks, and some not so great lyrics.

Yeah I quite like this. Definitely fades a bit, but it's high points are quite good.

their trajectory might have been very different if they hadn't spent their middle period trend-hopping. 'night people' and 'IV' were just not the sorts of albums that we needed to hear from them in my opinion. should've doubled down on what made them great from the start - but i guess if they did what they wanted to do then what can i really say?

Yeah they were ultimately best as a pop punk band. The trend hopping they did really did them no favours at all. Their first album is still their strongest in my opinion, although I haven’t listen to it in 10 years.

    sinners never sleep for me.

tbf i don’t actually even think they needed to carry on with pop punk. cavalier youth had some big rock anthems and they could’ve followed that route. they should’ve chosen some more engaging producers too, that was another downfall.

Cavalier Youth remains awesome and in my rotation to this day, the rest of it is mostly forgettable for me unfortunately

Yeah Night People and VI were missteps. Suckapunch and Truth Decay were surprising improvements on both.

For me they've never written one truly great album - Sinners Never Sleep was as close as they got. But they've consistently got a lot of very good songs throughout their catalogue.

I love most of the albums these guys put out but I must say Night People was one of the most boring things I've ever heard.

Really sad they're breaking up, I remember seeing them when Take Off Your Colours was released as The Astoria, supported by Houston Calls and Farewell!

It's a shame to hear they're breaking up, even if the last few records didn't quite connect with me.

Those first three albums were great, but it just seems like from them there were missteps and more misses than hits. They'll certainly be missed though.
