While it's not a set for me, I can fully appreciate this.

The NOFX 3day mock was a joke - there's no point in doing a serious mock right now when none of the headliners are even known yet

And one mock has Op Ivy on I'm pretty sure the same day Rancid is playing with Green Day on the west coast.. Talking Heads turned down Coachella money, Tool-Maynard has played ONE show in September in the last 15 years and it was because they signed with Danny Wimmer to do multiple festivals last year

My guess is NOFX get 90 minutes and do the 40 songs/2 album thing they've been doing on Punk in Dublic - they've already done Punk in Drublic at Riot - would love to finally see the Decline live

i mean yea, any mock with legit consideration to either op ivy or talking heads is silly from the get go, but still can have good ideas elsewhere in the lineup and i think 3 days of nofx is logical, reasonable, and cool idea. doubt id see all 3 as theyd be conflicting with heavy hitters every night, but would be a proper send off for them

I'm a huge NOFX fan, but 120 songs and 3 and a half hours on stage over three days is a tad bit overkill lol

(maybe 2 days - Friday & Sunday wouldn't be all that bad, I'd be fine with that I think)

i would usually say that, but since this is their last hurrah (i think i believe them...?) ill take as much shitty fat mike banter and songs played too fast/sloppy as i can that weekend.

The comments of one of those mocks had everyone wanting Sum 41 as the headliner. Which I can’t see being remotely real. They’d be like 2nd or 3rd bill on their respective day, in my assumption or opinion.

Talking Heads I agree with, but I'm honestly not sure why everyone is so adamant that there's no chance Op Ivy happens this year. Now, I don't really think this'll be the year, but as time goes on it seems more likely to happen at some point. I know Rancid is on tour with Green Day this year, but that tour has a Saturday/Sunday gap Riot Fest weekend. I'm not saying it will happen, but I'm not as convinced as others seem to be that it won't.

San Fran on Friday - Chicago on Saturday, Sunday would seem impossible - Seattle on Monday

I mean Tim & Matt COULD fly out to Chicago, and maybe in some fantasy world they've been practicing in secret with Jesse & Mello - it just seems very doubtful - would really love to be wrong

I know bands have played Los Angeles & Riot the next day, but I don't think they had to return back to the West Coast the next day but I've relegated myself into thinking Op Ivy will never happen

Yeah I’m not betting on an Op Ivy reunion this year considering Rancid doing the Green Day tour and also promoting a new album. Next year maybe?

I agree it's doubtful for this year, but it's only a 4.5 hr flight from the west coast to Chicago. If they really wanted to, I think they could make Saturday or Sunday work depending on whether they'd prefer to be tired for a headlining set at Riot or an opening set with Green Day lol

But I imagine the pay day would need to be unrealistically huge for them to not only reunite after 30 years but also deal with the nightmare travel logistics.

I don't think it's money - Kevin and Warped Tour tried to get them to reunite some years back and their big excuse was something like "Op Ivy never played crowds that size - it wouldn't feel authentic"

Fair. I was thinking about the money more as enticement to deal with the travel nightmare rather than as a reunion fee...I know a few million dollars would make me feel okay with taking a couple of back-to-back red eye flights lol

Just because it's logistically feasible for the weekend of the festival doesn't mean it makes sense. I'm struggling to come up with a good metaphor but... It would just feel really weird to do a reunion gig of that magnitude and treat it almost like a sidebar to everything else that you're doing.

It's pretty obvious that Jesse and Tim both hold the legacy of that band in very high regard (as they should). And I don't see them doing it in any way where their focus leading up to that first show back is anywhere except with Operation Ivy. It's got to feel right. And they'd need some time to practice closer to the show (and, let's be real - probably do a surprise/secret small club gig to test run the set).

If money were a motivator this would have happened years ago. Besides, it's not like that money is going anywhere...

Also imagine doing a reunion that big and risking it all blowing up because a flight gets cancelled or something.

...Or just putting on a bad show because you're exhausted from all the travel you're doing as a 50+ year old human being.

i have no skin in the game because op ivy werent really my thing, but i feel like IF they do it, the first time will be at a small club in SF/the bay area. riot would be the first festival i think, but they feel like such a bay area band it would be weird to have that first one back be big and in chicago. but like i said, not my area of expertise, just an outsider's perspective.

To be clear, I agree with all of you lol I just thought it was kinda odd how many times I'd seen people assert that the idea that Op Ivy would play this year is lunacy. It's highly unlikely, but it's certainly not impossible. And they're not unlikely in the "they can't stand each other" way The Smiths or The Talking Heads are.

Also, SDRE is out. Diary 30-year tour Hitting Chicago Sept 25th. That would’ve made a solid album-play

Feels like today is the first official day of "rule-out" season. Haha. I give it until mid-March before we're all aggressively wondering who the heck could possibly be on the line-up that we haven't thought of because the rest have been confirmed to be busy that weekend.
