Out of all the races they've done this in, this feels like the only one that actually has a chance. People fucking hate Ted lol.

Beto got close but it was also a historically great year for Dems in a midterm turnout there so who knows. 2024 should in theory be way less friendly to Texas Dems.

They are conducting a blockade of Israeli ports, there are no reports of any civilians dying. If a Singaporean ship without Israeli connections has to dock in Yemen for a few weeks as part of an effort to stop a genocide that’s worth it.

The “slave keeping” is Saudi propaganda, find me an article claiming that isn't sourced to that one article from a Saudi owned rag.

“Hate the Jews more than they support Palestinians” is just racism. Based on what? If that’s the case why haven’t they been launching attacks on Israel constantly, why did it not start until it was part of an effort to stop an ongoing genocide? Why are they offering to stop if there is a permanent ceasefire instead of demanding the dismantling of Israel? Why are they not blowing up Israeli civilian ships instead of turning them around? Why is all of this so hard for you to grasp but “Joe Biden is secretly trying to stop this” passes your smell test?

  3. Well yeah it’s different when your dad was in the SS vs when your dad was a tribal herdsman who didn’t hear about WW2 until it was over. You disagree?

I'm trying to think of a good way to say this and I'm not sure I have it yet - there are others who can probably put it more eloquently. But I don't think you can bomb a country into supporting LGBTQ and women's rights. Like I don't think you'll find anyone in here that disagrees that those things are a very low bar in terms of what we consider an equitable and just society, and that anything we can do to push for those things worldwide is an objectively good thing. The United States, however, does not care about those things on a global scale, and to pin that to any sort of foreign policy decision is wacky.

It feels a little disingenuous to look at a region of the world that has suffered under a century (or more) of colonialism, imperialism, etc. and only point that they have shitty reactionary social views. If the only time that the U.S. actually cares about Yemen is when they're blocking shipping lanes (and not hurting anyone as far as I have read), and if we've been fine with selling weapons to Saudi Arabia who then uses those weapons to decimate that country, then what are we even doing here?

It's hard to push for equality when your country is suffering a famine and hundreds of thousands are dead, I think is my point. Anti-imperialism doesn't happen in a vacuum, these countries and even these political groups in some cases are not monoliths. I think a lot of people are just supportive that someone, somewhere, is doing SOMETHING. While countries like the U.S. and Germany rush to Israel's defense at the ICJ

Yes! You obviously still know what the nazi salutes mean and are meant to convey re: jews! lol

this guy wants to make the houthis take DEI courses.

  11. That is not the same as having the same context

  12. It’s not the same to hate Jews after 75 years of a country with a Star of David on its flag murdering people like you with impunity and carving stars of David into their doors and burning it into their fields as it is to hate them because your ancestors were cossacks. Just not the same at all and to me its offensive to imply it is

essentializing hatred of jews is zionist thinking. it is to remove antisemitism from any context or historical grounding outside of rationality (not justification).

No see, I get that you can understand why both groups of people would have people that do it. I understand it too! Trying to defend one or the other is where it gets really dumb really fast. Israel being racist fuckheads towards Palestinians isn't a good reason to start throwing up the salute that is universally understood as showing your support for the idea of wiping jews off the face of the earth lol. Like, I can totally get why Ukrainians in a struggle against Russia that seems intent on wiping out their national identity fall back onto historic ultranationalist behaviors which included fighting with Nazis and aligning with nazis in the fight against Russia back then. I get the connection---and it's still wrong and bad and dumb and they shouldn't do it!

Absolutely wild that we've reached "actually some nazi salutes aren't so bad if you just understand them more" lmao. And also trying to write off the slavery stuff as strictly Saudi propaganda while openly mocking the idea of the leaders of the United States having back channel convos with people they're allied with, and the idea that a politician would never try to reverse course on an action once it has proven politically unpopular and is costing them support is apparently unheard of. THAT is too hard for you to believe, but "slavery in Yemen is just a saudi proaganda" is on the up and up.

ehem, that ultranationalism seems to stem FROM its history of nazism, before the war, before Maidan.

Next time i see a Houthi, I’ll make sure to check their understanding of the salute. In the meantime, i wholeheartedly support the blockade and hope it leads to a ceasefire.

  20. Ok it’s wrong and dumb for anyone to do the nazi salute.

  21. You haven’t shown me a claim about “Houthi slavery” that wasn’t sourced back to the single article in the Saud rag. Do that and that part of the conversation can continue, or defend the veracity of that report. You’re just saying “nuh uh” in this post

  22.
  23. none of that matters though, they did the arm movement and use colloquial antisemitism which is basically what the holocaust was

  24. at some point comparing Yemenis to the descendants of the SS is basically complaining about reverse racism

    1) i get bummed about the number of people who would buy “iraq has WMDs” to this day

    2) if anyone in this thread were instead born and raised in yemen in the past 30 years, it is not inconceivable that you’d hold many of the beliefs that a houthi holds. that doesn’t mean you have to think they’re perfect or even good, but the thing they are doing in direct relation to this conflict - with the stated goal of doing it to bring about a ceasefire - is a clear good. rn israel is committing a genocide and the houthis are impacting shipping times.
