Well, the video is depressing, the song is depressing (A-A-Antisocial? A-a-a-angel? Yeah?). California is poppy, kinda good but forgettable. Regarding Wikileaks and Tom — actually, there was a confirmed meeting (Google Calendar's meeting) after that emails. So he's not batshit crazy and that's a good thing. Hopefully. But whatever.

I have a question: a year ago everyone here (and everywhere tbh) was not happy if Tom's go back to Blink. How do you guys feel about it now? If Tom's back, would you listen to blink?

 

I'll never not listen but a Tom return would feel disingenuous. Mark and Tom will never have a relationship wherein they can create music in a cohesive manner ever again. Also, any chemistry we'd see on stage or in public appearances feel completely forced and utterly fake. I trust Mark to do right by the band, and in that regard I don't see a Tom reunion ever happening.

 

Yes, true. Things will never be the same and THIS is really depressing. I like Mark, Matt and Travis show, it's good, but it's not the same.

 

Not sure how charts work exactly, but any chance this video that everyone hates has any influence on the fact that She's Out of Her Mind is up 4 spots today?

How can you say the song is depressing? It's the bands most poppy sounding song since First Date.

Anyway my response to the do you want Tom back in the band has been the same since he left. If we're getting the pre break up late 90s/early 2000s Tom, then yes absolutely. If we're getting the post break up Tom then no. He's done absolutely nothing since the band got back together in 2009 that shows he truly cares about the band and their music. It's just an outlet for him to make money (not knocking him or anyone for wanting to do that) and promote his other interests. Tom has outgrown blink, I just wish he'd be man enough to admit it and move on so the pro Tom fans can move on from him too. If he came back we're maybe going to get half assed new music and millions of promises of things that never actually happen.

 

I was pretty obsessed with the new album when it first dropped but yesterday I listened to it again and for a 40 minute album it just felt so long and kind of hard to get through. I know people will disagree but I'd be fine if I never heard the stretch of KOTW-Rabbit Hole ever again

 

I agree with you and I've always felt that way. I really like California but after No Future the album really does seem to drag a bit, especially the until we get to Rabbit Hole and San Diego, although I do like Left Alone. I just think HISALP, KOTW and Teenage Satellites back to back to back hurt the pacing a bit. The back end of the album is definitely weaker than the front end. It just seems like there's a lot of filler songs at the end.

 

I'm glad California happened, but I'm ready for some different blink. Either more Tom influenced or more Matt influenced.

 

I've listened to the DED ep once in the last two years and that's about how much I'd care about any future blink music that Tom has a hand in.

 

I still love California, just spun it yesterday and the day before in fact. It has not gotten old for me, and I still love pretty much every song. So there's that. As for do I want Tom back?....this is a hard question. Tom used to be my favorite but he has fallen off hard in the past three years. His music in and out of blink has slipped in quality, and he has become a guy that cannot keep his word really. So if Tom was coming back and we got the Tom that worked hard on blink, took it seriously, like pre hiatus Tom then yes. Post hiatus Tom who uses blink for money and tries to make music that's basically the same concept over and over (and over and over and overrrrrrr....sorry.) then I'll keep Skiba. I was sold on Skiba as soon as BTD dropped, and I would miss his vocals, the notes he can hit (cynical, rabbit hole, his verse in teenage satellites, Los Angeles etc) are beyond what Tom can do, and I've come to LOVE his vocal style in these songs(and his better playing of the old stuff)

 

Yeah I hate saying things like that blink song sounds like AVA/+44/whatever but the DED EP sounds like rejected AVA ideas with Mark and Travis along for the ride. I feel like Tom had those 5 songs mostly done and decided to call up Mark and Travis to help finish them up and put their touches on it. I mean it only took them about a week or so to make that EP.

I'd have to figure if Tom didn't quit/get kicked out of the band then we'd probably get a new blink EP every other year or so but I don't think we'd ever get another full length album from them.

 

We'd also never learn the truth about aliens

 

I hope we get better writing next time. I don't think "less production" is going to happen so I'll settle.

 

Taylor Swift, Kanye West, and Beyonce have all made multiple albums better than any blink 182 album. Can't speak on Rihanna as I only really get down with her singles

 

Rihanna's Anti is better than every blink album apart from the S/T

 

I just wish they would focus on more than 10 artists each year

not comparing those albums to blink (though I do enjoy every blink album over any any of the artists I mention) just saying that there are so many artists that don't get the recognition they deserve. IMO, Grammys don't really represent the best music out there anymore, but the most popular. They need to branch out and show a broader knowledge of other music genres/artists.

 

Have you listened to any of the albums those artists have released though?

 

Yup.. and I love Kanye, think he's an amazing artist. But I just enjoy rock music more, different strokes for different folks. Taylor swift isn't my thing and Rihanna has a few good songs, but nothing amazing.

 

I like Skiba in Blink and I hope they make another record together. I'm thankful they made California, but you can tell they did it for the fans. I really am hoping the next record is along the lines of Blink's S/T and AK3's Crimson.

As for Tom, I'll always look up to the guy. I hope his endeavors do him justice. As for music, I hope him and Travis get together somewhere down the line and do something cool.

Kind of a bummer that they are playing separate nights. Hopefully Kroq does it right and has Blink/Green Day/JEW on the same day for almost acoustic christmas.
