I went to a comedy show and my gf was talking so I shhh her, way worse than telling a stranger to shut the fuck up

You got to laugh at their last anecdote then give them a stern look and the shush finger.

I had to tell people at an Aly & AJ concert to shut the fuck up and I think one of the girls was legitimately afraid of me. I’m 5 feet tall, I can’t do shit

  4. it's usually pretty empty on weekday afternoons, i think I have a bad experience with the audience maybe 10% of the time. I have A-List so I try to make use of it as much as I can, and sometimes buy their overpriced concessions to support the theater industry. because somehow, heartbreak feels good in a place like this

If I have to tell someone to shut up then my mood will be fucked for the whole movie. I’ll be furious that I even had to tell someone to get their shit together

I’ve never told someone to shut up, but looking directly at them normally gets them to lol

at aquaman the other day (sunday afternoon showing, 2nd weekend, barely anyone there) someone obviously had a small child with them in a row further up and gave them a phone or something to occupy them, and the sound was way too loud.

my wife leaned over to me a couple of times and was like "that's really annoying" but I couldn't hear it. eventually I did and kinda loudly said "hey you gotta turn that phone off please" and then a few minutes later it was still playing and my wife even louder said "ARE YOU SERIOUS? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? TURN THAT OFF"

    and then they did

I like experiencing art in an audience, I can put a bad audience in perspective now and not be too bothered by obnoxious people anymore (to a point)

Two worst audiences I had: During a free screening for that terrible live-action “Tarzan” movie, a kid asked his dad questions throughout the entire movie and his dad answered every one of them (Sample q & a: “Why is Tarzan dirty?” “Because he just ran through the jungle.”)

During the first David Gordon Green “Halloween,” I had these dumbass teens behind me who thought they were MST3K-ing it the entire time. Everyone was glaring at them and nobody said anything. I was fuming the entire time.

We saw 1776 last year and the woman behind us kept making comments to her sons to “inspire thought” and at intermission she asked them what they thought was going to happen. Uhhh…they sign the Declaration of Independence?

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

when I saw Boy and the Heron late last year I had:

    a) the lady directly in front of me just taking her phone out and taking a photo of the screen every 5-10 minutes,

    b) two drunk dick heads come in, loudly ask "oh this is an ANIME?" and then proceed to continuously make offensive/racist commentary for about half an hour until someone told them to shut up and they left,

    c) the projector dying and restarting 2-3 times while sound was still playing, the screen just went purple for 10 seconds each time

legitimately can't conceive of a worse possible conflation of events to watch that movie. I think it actually single handedly turned me off cinemas, used to love going

I also like watching movies at home on my nice TV that I can pause and do whatever I want and not have to deal with selfish, rude, annoying human beings.

However we could also strive for better theater experiences and take back what made going to the movies great by being less rude, calling out people who are and enforcing it.

Movie theaters are not the problem, assholes are.

movie theaters are the problem, because THEY don’t enforce anything. I was not allowed to kick anybody out even after multiple complaints. The best we could do was offer free passes to the entire theater (often including the shitheads) to come back again, likely for another miserable experience.

I feel pretty lucky that I can count the number of bad theater experiences I’ve had on one hand. I just go during times that are less crowded etc, it’s never been that bad.
