They’re so good. It’s a double album and not a single song I skip.

Good so far. That funky bass tone is hard to hate. When something is in a different language it sort of takes you out of it and it becomes more of a passive experience and this record is perfect for bopping around the house or driving in the car. The hour and a half run time is a bit intimidating.

Finished it up this morning getting my kids breakfast and bopping around. Solid record but prefer the first "half" as the second is chill and more of a vibe. It is kind of interesting they did it as a double album as is it's almost two separate things and it's way too long to be absorbed in one sitting. I wonder if it was a label thing. Great recommendation I would never had heard otherwise.

I think over time I’ve grown to like the second half more. It’s a great album to throw in at work and kind of get lost in

as for the length I believed they had released like 9 of the songs before the album was even announced and didn’t want to do an album of all previously released material

Sakanaction album was fun! Super breezy and good vibes to it. It’s currently freezing cold where I am, so it felt like I was warming up listening to it.

I’m not quite sure I needed 90 minutes of it, but an enjoyable time.

They’re self titled album before this one is really good and standard length. The album after, Adapt, is really short. It was part one of a planned double album but they went on hiatus before the second part came out.

Finished the second half of the Sakanaction album earlier today. Thought it was pretty great overall, but echoing others about the length being an issue. Just not always in the mood for a long album, haha. I prefer the first half to the second half. Feel like it's something I could throw on when I need some good vibes

got pretty high today and finished this up. I really like it. I do also have to echo the sentiments of preferring the first half to the latter one and it being a bit too long for its own good. but the thing is, it still works in spite of that. only a few songs (Hasu no Hana in particular) feel phoned in. again I’m echoing what’s already been said but it’s a very positive, good vibes kind of album and I appreciate that most of all about it. it’s the kind of album you play to cheer yourself up on a bad day or make a good one even better. my favorite songs were Kagero and Good-Bye. thanks for suggesting this, @I Am Mick

we’ll never agree on Subway but this was a great pick.

Catching up. Codeseven is alright. Not necessarily my bag (nor are the RIYL) but it wasn't bad. Singer's voice was good, I don't thinkI will find myself returning to this.

The Codeseven album is pretty solid. I definitely hear the Circa Survive sound, definitely Balance and Composure too. The singer's voice feels pretty heavily influenced by Daryl Palumbo too. All the Best Dreams and Pathetic Justice are great songs. I love the drums in particular for Pathetic Justice. That outro is perfection.

  20. Would love to join in on this!

The Sakanaction album is really cool. Echoing everyone else that it's on the long side, but that was totally fine as a background to working this afternoon. The way it relaxes as it goes along is great. Incredible bass playing in the first few songs, and the closing track would feel right at home in a movie montage.

  21. I wasn't sure what to expect from Japanese indie, but for some reason it wasn't this. Really tight sounding live band production and compelling instrumentation. The first half is so groovy, I echo @troyplaysbass in noticing the great bass parts on the first few tracks. Also a lot of really catchy vocal melodies throughout.

The second half of the record has so many beautiful moments that feel anthemic and uplifting. I was kind of bummed I couldn't understand the lyrics, because these are the kinds of songs that would really stick with me if I could relate to the message. A bunch of these songs would be stuck in my head for sure.

I thought it was kind of odd hearing two songs that each show up twice in the tracklist. With a 90 minute album, it seems like excluding multiple versions of the same song would be one easy way to bring down the runtime a bit! I did notice after a little research that one of these songs serves as the closer to each of the two discs of the album, and I thought that was a pretty cool concept to close each disc of a double album with different versions of the same song.

I couldn't believe that I've never heard of this band and some of the songs on this album have hundreds of millions of plays. Very cool to be introduced to another artist I never would have heard if not for this club. Thanks @I Am Mick !

The first half definitely reminds me so much of one of my favorite band, Chromeo. Not AS dancy but that funk and bass: chefs kiss. All we need is a vocoder and we are good!

It's really puzzling that they don't make any effort to have an English language presence. I listen to a lot of smaller japanese bands that do, and Sakanaction is pretty big from what I understand.

I'd give their other albums a shot if you liked this, they're shorter. They actually just announced that they'll be starting back up after taking the last two years off because their singer was sick. (I think, I had to skim a documentary using the youtube auto translate which is brutal.)
