It’s pretty disingenuous to say he’s “defending Jared Leto,” just because he’s being, idk, pedantic about the definition of “cult leader”!

It's weird he's being pedantic and still wrong

There are a million different words to negatively call Jared Leto before cult leader

From my understanding, one of the defining characteristics of a cult is that they have some type of mission or firmly held belief. It also requires more of a lifestyle adjustment than just a weekend getaway. From what I’ve read about The Echelon and Camp Mars, it mostly just sounds like Jared and his band take advantage of the fact that their fans will pay lots of money to be in their presence and be “seen” by them or whatever

I’m open to being educated on how what they have is a cult, but after doing some reading on all of this since this conversation, I gotta side with Steve here. Leto is dogshit for 101 reasons I’m just not sure being a “cult leader” is one of them

I think him using his "weekend retreat" to charge tons of money to spend time with him including VIP packages and to prey upon young women, hold hours long seminars where they all dress in the same clothing and listen to his words, do community oriented activities that he leads, get tattoos showing their devotion to him and the band and leaning into the cult schtick is more than enough reason to believe they're calling it a cult because it's the easiest way to hide in plain sight and get away with it.

My point is that you said:

Which is not what is happening, he is not being defended.

    Hitler killed John Lennon!
    No he didn't ..
    Don't defend Hitler!!

not that it matters, I don’t think Steve was “defending” him at all..

But this definitely sounds very culty to me, particularly the fact that it’s targeted toward younger and more impressionable fans. No reason to draw lines in the sand. That’s some creepy groupthink behavior being cultivated by a grown man among teenagers.
