  1. Another really good episode. A bit less explosive than their 9th episodes usually are, but the finale should be wild.

    Sergei's death was brutal.

    I literally gasped.

Next week is gonna be good. Not only as a season finale but it's also the end of the 90s era correct? So we should be headed forward another 10 years next season so would I be crazy in thinking we'll be saying bye to some characters? Eds gonna be old as hell in a decade from now and after his heart to heart with Kelly I could see something heroic/tragic happening.

Ugh I'm gonna miss him if so.

  4. It’s already 2003, if they do another big jump, a lot of those original characters will really be getting up there.

I think Danielle is gone for sure next week. In The Watch podcast terms, she was McBaining hard.

It could or since this series (especially this season) is heavily influenced by Red Mars, they could pull something similar to that novel to keep these characters around longer. scientists on Mars discover and develop revolutionary anti-aging/life extension drugs the keep some of the first humans on Mars alive much much longer

Who knows maybe that is where Kelly's life on mars discovery plot is going.

Honestly I think the only original character that was in season 1 that is going to be alive by the time this series ends is Alieda.

The first episode of the series ends with a shot of her as a young girl staring up at space, the final shot of series finale is going to be of her as an old woman staring up at space from another planet. Calling it now.

    Oh is it 2003? Damn.

Danielle and Ed....it's gonna be such a weird show without either of these 2. When Kelly was at Ed's desk and the camera panned over his pics of his wife and son I was like "this has been one hell of a journey".

I think I read in an interview with someone that Jupiter was after Mars, surely we're not jumping to there next season. But with years between jumps anything is possible I guess?

I love this idea so much.

    Edit: both ideas lol

  9. I sort of hope they stay less fantastical than that, but it’s definitely a good way to keep those characters in the mix.

Moons of Jupiter definitely make sense for where to go next.

Yeah Titan (largest moon of Saturn, larger than the planet Mercury, only moon in the solar system with an atmosphere, thought to contain liquid oceans and lakes) is definitely next

Also again: it would fit the pattern. Season 1 on the establishment of a colony on the moon, Season 2 about conflict on said moon colony over resources, Season 3 about the establishment of a colony on Mars, and Season 4 about a conflict on said Mars colony over resources.

Next season should be the establishment of a colony on a new planetary body.

She was not in season 1, but i do agree she may be pivotal moving forward.

I can't believe there is only one episode left though. Going to be one of those situations where the wait for the next season is agonizing! I hope they go the full 7 seasons like they have discussed.

This season has a surprisingly good 2000's indie/garage rock soundtrack

Radiohead, The Strokes, Modest Mouse, Cat Power, Franz Ferdinand, Le Tigre, Hot Snakes, New Pornographers

Yes famous 2000's indie rock artist DMX. I remember seeing Rilo Kiley open for him in 2005 it ruled.

Apparently I am not the only person who has read Kim Stanley Robinson's Red Mars and recognized it's similarities to this season because of a bunch of people in the subreddit have that same "Kelly is going to discover the Fountain of Youth on Mars and it's going end up being more valuable than the Goldilocks asteroid" theory as me.

Ok here is my official theory/prediction for how this asteroid plot is going to turn out in the midst of conflict between the factions over the capture mission, they are going to majorly fuck up, the asteroid is set on a collision course towards Mars. Either Ed, Danielle, or both sacrifice themselves to blow up the asteroid before it makes impact. In the aftermath thousands pieces of debris containing Iridium fall on Mars' surface, thus securing Mars' future

There’s no way Danielle and Ed survive the next episode at this point and I’m not ready for that. Even if Ed sucks this season.
