  1. Glad people are vibing with it! It was a gateway listen to more abstract/electronic music for me, for sure. I'm a big OPN fan now.

Tbh I’m officially in and it’s only because I haven’t listened to replica in too long so I might as well

I'm gonna be on a two-day road trip starting Saturday, so I'll have this downloaded and ready for listening then.

Enjoyed Replica. If I had heard this when it came out I would have been all over it, took me back to the early cloud rap days with asap and clams.

I've checked out maybe 2 ONP projects before but they didn't really leave much of an impression.

This was cool to work to this morning, something a little more creative and challenging than lofi background music.

I once got super high and put on the Good Time soundtrack and went for a walk in the middle of the night and had a horrific panic attack and thought there was a team of people tracking me all over the neighborhood.

Anyway I’m really only familiar with OPN’s last two albums and Safdie soundtracks, so curious how this will sound. Firing it up now

I liked most of it. Some of the samples are pretty grating, I especially disliked the weird chewing sound in Nassau. The album art rules

He’s definitely gotten much better, but it’s cool to hear some of the sounds he’s still using

Just finished listening. Definitely outside my typical listening but I always welcome a challenge. The album cover reminds me of a weird, twisted version of a-ha's Take on Me. Overall, I really enjoyed it but it did end up losing me at times. I did read that this was his first venture into samples as opposed to synth (which I much prefer). The standout track has to be Sleep Dealer but I will 100% listen to the album again.

After some debate I believe I have picked something I think a lot of people will enjoy. We are going to go back to 2004 on Equal Vision records. This record was a huge shift in sound for them. Dropping all the screaming and embracing a balance between pop rock, post hardcore and electronics. Mixing the sounds of Circa Survive, Thrice and Hopesfall (minus the screaming). I had the pleasure of seeing them a couple of weeks ago with Hopesfall supporting them for their album release show. Their new album is fantastic and really progresses on the sound from this album but I wanted to stick with the rules and not post something from 2023. They aren't really active that much anymore but are playing a few shows in NY/NJ next month. Enjoy!

Listened to Replica by Oneohtrix Point Never - not an easy first listen. I’m sure it’s one of those albums that rewards multiple listens to understand a bit more of what is going on here, but I found it difficult to latch onto much. Didn’t dislike anything necessarily, just nothing here that stood out.

  21. I'm a couple tracks into the OPN album and it's wildly fascinating to me. It's so far outside my usual wheelhouse in nearly every way. I generally don't seek out instrumental music, or electronic music. But I try to appreciate all types of music, and this is a great exercise in getting out of my comfort zone.

There is a lot to like here, and I can totally see how you could get drawn into the aesthetics of a record like this. My very pop-song-structure-trained brain keeps hearing these really pretty samples and waiting for them to bloom into a bigger soundscape with more elements and movement, but more often than not the songs just live in that space for a while and repeat the same sample or phrase.

I'm finding a lot more enjoyment in it as I get further into it and kind of let go of my preconceived notions of what a song should be or where it should go, and just enjoy where these tracks take me, which is all very pleasant and contemplative. Kind of a brain palate cleanser haha

The run of tracks 3-5 has been the standout section for me so far.

Thanks for the rec and introducing me to something new and super interesting, @Aaron Mook !

  22. Really wasn't expecting "Child Soldier"! That opening sample sounds like it has to be from a video game

I’ve noticed that I don’t really have the bandwidth to contribute. I can still select an album if you want, but if you want to give the spot to someone who is more involved then that is cool too.

Codeseven's album is solid. Has a nice relaxed vibe. I don't think anything particularly stood out as different from all the other bands that were kind of mimicking Circa Survive at the time, but I'll probably throw it on once and a while
